Hello there Guys, I am pretty sure that this question ask been asked so many time, but I just wanted to get your thoughts on this topic. Yes I am a nvidia FanBoy, but lately they are doing alot of crazy stuff. I current have nvidia 8800GT Graphic Card and I wanted to replace that before Call of Duty comes out (Nov). I have been reading around and it looks like nvidia has no plans to release anything good untill next year and I can't wait that long. I am updating some hardware in my current Rig and I wanted to get it done before the year comes to an end. So if I were to get the ATI 58XX series, what would you guys recommend me getting. This graphic card will be used for Gaming of course and other stuff. I want to get the 5870 card, but the price is pretty high. But the I was also thinking that if I get Two Sub $250 or Lower ATI 5XXX cards and do a Crossfire for the First Time. Also the Power Supply currently I have Corsair HX620, Updated Needed? Your Thoughts Guys?
Personally, I am going to wait for the Fermi cards to hit reviews before I decide. If, and it is a very big IF, nVidia manage to pull something impressive out of the bag with Fermi and surprise all us doubters, then I will stay with them.
New COD doesn't look that different gfx wise to COD4? if you can play 4 at an acceptable fps at your res, aa and af levels then I would bet you can run the new one good enough too.
My previous post From here IMO you should either be able to make an informed decsion about fermi/hd58xx by end of next month, or just go and buy a HD58XX cos fermi is 6 months away.
My advice won't exactly be impartial but why would you wait for NVIDIA? HD5870s eat any game today (at reasonable resolution)
^money my friend, the 5870 is really over priced. Not everyone wants to spend £300 on a card that will be nearing £200 most likely early next year
wait, no point buying an overpriced product that is going to drop in price once competition kicks in. im not saying wait to buy nVidia's card. im saying wait for competition to kick in
more like nvidia is way overpriced.. look at what they are offering- the 285 is still 350+ over here, not even going to mention 295 the 275 was decent and going for 200+ here but it's not even close to a 5870- represents it's price in the market well considering the high end nvidia offers.. you guys gotta accept reality =] fermi is probably going to be the same- overpriced.. that's just the way they roll this news about EOL their 200 line without a new card.. that's what really makes me laugh about nvidia right now.. fake cards, trying to rally their rabid fanbase- anyone but me see anything but marketing going on
no one is looking at Dx10 cards now, if they were, they are a n00b. it's all about Dx11 when looking to buy a new card. and without competition, 5870 is overpriced for sure. i can 100% say it's going to drop in price once Fermi (the competition, it could also be Larabee) is released.
There currently is nothing all about Dx11 right now, maybe next year. But right now what is there.. dirt 2? The 5800 series is an impressive performance DX11 range, but it's not exactly performance that we haven't seen before like the 8800 nvidia series when DX10 was introduced. To be honest stick with the GTX 260/275 and 4870/4890 and get a card that's worth the price and out classes the 200 and 4800 series or something that is actually worth getting DX11 for. 5850 = GTX 285 oc 5870 = 4870 x2 / GTX 260 SLI (possibly oc) (if to set it into a category). Yet whilst 5850 is better priced than the 285, you can grab yourself 4890 or GTX 275 for much better deals, saving yourself easily £50 for almost the same performance.
Well I am not buying Graphic Card untill end of the year, I know CODM2 will be out next month, but I can kill through pain if I have too. I just need an asnwer from Nvidia and see what the heck they are cooking. So I will wait untill end of the year and see what happens. I would luv to by the 5870 below $300. What about my Power Supply? Good or Need New One (Cross-Fire) Current HX620?
like all review site's recommendation: if you are buying now, 5870 is a fantastic buy. but if you have top last gen and happy with it then hold off until competition kicks in. i said no point to look at Dx10 because it's old tech, Dx11 performs better while looks better, so if you are going to buy a card, gtx285 is really not worth considering, even if it's at £200. performance won't matter as much, considering anything above 5770/4870/gtx260 is able to play all games easily at the moment.
I would personally wait, if only because prices are bound to go down. Give it a bit of time(Nov/Dec) for Nvidia to hopefully release a product. If it's even semi-competitive, then you'll have price drops. Why waste extra money, when your current computer is decent, and the new card on the shelf costs too much? By the way, your PSU is fine.
Well I won't be getting the card untill end of the year. I will gave to kill out with 8800GT untill I get a new one.
