If I was to order the NK204, the serial cable and the 12V wide voltage power lead, how would I go about powering the unit if it was like 3ft away from the molex on the power supply.

The serial cable would be long enough, am I right in thinking its just a matter of snipping the wire and extending it ?

    Ta, again

get some wire, and then cut the power supply wire wires and solder in the new longer bits.

get your self a external power adapter and cut the end off and solder the molex header onto it... that's the easiest option.. I have one more but harder :)

Could use the power from the serial

If you don't mind a little solder, you could follow the manual and make the unit accept power from the serial cable. Then you'd only have one cable.

Not how I'm doing it with my new "all-in-one" external cable project, but possibility.

I hope to have the cable done by the weekend and will post info when I do.

I was thinking of a regular DC adapter, like you would see to charge a cell phone, or a diskman power adapter, we use those here... jsut cut the end off, and solder on a connector

    I did mine the Macro way... all-in-all it's a sweet mod :)

I know it's not terribly original but I did mine almost completely the same way (except I used 2x12v and 2x5v); but hey it works and is nice and neat.

edit: linear: how many times a week do you change your avatar? lol, I've lost count of all the different ones!!

On my VFD power line I just used ethernet, got a femal jack and hot glued it to an old ethernet faceplate, then crimped the cable to the right stuff.
