Ok I want a new gfx card

    Specs:
    CPu;x6000+ oced to 3.35 ghz
Mobo: tbd- if I go nvidia prob the asus crosshair
    memory: 2x1gb 6400 ddr2
HD: 320gb sata and 150gb raptor
    GFX: current two 1950pro's
    Monitor: 42" 1080p tv
Current crysis perf.: Settings Medium with high physics and enviroment at 1920x1080, fps 15-25 smooth enough to beat game!! :D
Current BF2 perf: with widescreen fix at 1920x1080 with all high and x8aa and x16af I get 45-100fps with pr mod

So I want to play new games, crysis :D and also older games, bf2 is a good example, crossfire has its issues so I want a single card to last until drivers catch up better, I play all my games at 1920x1080 and I do like aa but at that res 2xaa-4xaa is more than enough.

Ive been looking at the 8800gts and 8800gtx and 8800gt, I could be up for two 8800gt's but Id rather go single card. In your opinion what should I do? what do I need? I dont plan on running dx10 within the next year so most stuff will be dx9.

Im planning on the gts at about 300, the gtx's are still 450 or so, is two 8800gt's comparable to gtx at this resolution?

8800GTX for that resolution. the 8800GT and GTS G92 cores are limited by memory bandwidth, so it won't perform as well at that res.

8800GTX is the best option - as wuyanxu says, the G92's of late are bottlenecked by memory bandwidth at high resolutions, especially with AA stuck on.

ok cool, thanks for the replies this is what i feared lol so really the gt and gts are equal minus shader horsepower? I guess I will wait a while longer than and see if the gtx will drop to a gts price with all the upcoming 9000 cards. knowing me Ill prob end up with two 3870's...

 Dual 3870 in Crossfire should give you a speed-bump (esp minus AA) but your biggest problem is that dual X1950Pro in Crossfire is already up there with the best, I don't think you'd see much improvement going to a single card, even an 8800GTX (which is hideously priced BTW). I'm not sure how 15-25fps can seem smooth, I'd personally prefer to lower the res and/or disable AA.

:thumb: Anyway I'm not sure about 1920x1080 but one review shows 1680x1050 (0xAA) with the following average FPS: 3870=23 8800GT=27 8800GTS_512=29 8800U=30 3870+3870=35 8800GT+8800GT=37 ... 8800U is faster than 8800GTX so it's certainly not worth the asking price. That's with Crysis' own benchmark script that comes with the game and high detail settings. How does that compare to your rig at 1680x1050 0xAA? At 1280x800 4xAA they are: 3870=22 8800GT=27 8800GTX=33.

;) Another review 1680x1050 0xAA: 3870=25 8800GT=31 8800GTX=32 8800U=35 3870-X2=38 ... 1920x1200 0xAA: 3870=21 8800GT=25 8800GTX=26 8800U=30 3870-X2=32 . BTW at both res the 8800GTS_512 actually out-performs the 8800GTX (+2fps) despite giving away loads of memory bandwidth. Judging from this two 8800GT/GTS_512 in SLI would definitely be faster than any single card but that would mean a mobo upgrade too, right? I think you may need to wait for the GeForce 9800 or Radeon 4800 due later this year (names are a guess BTW). The 9600GT should be out in the next month but that's 8800GT perf at best, I think it's more likely to be June before we see something truly better than 8800GT/GTS_512.

so in crysis im gonna see a decent improvement, from 20 avg to 27 avg but from medium to high as well. but in things like bf2 im gonna get the same maybe slightly better than with my two 1950's, so it looks like unless they die, which I thought they had yesterday, reformat fixed it... idk how lol, ill just wait for something new or a price I cant refuse.

anyone have a gts or gtx and play bf2? if so what res and whats your high and low frame rates?

:thumb: That's the best link I could find, most only cater for the GeForce6 and X800XL which were hot at the time. At 1600x1200 (1.92MP) 4xAA+16xAF a stock 8800GT=154fps 8800GTX=184fps 8800GT-SLI=202. At 1920x1440 (2.76MP) 4xAA+16xAF they get 8800GT=113fps 8800GTX=137fps 8800GT-SLI=192. For reference your 1920x1080=2.07MP (Megapixel / million pixels).
