Well, after I discovered my GF4's fan stopped working a while back, i was left fanless to that whole thing for a while. I got a new case, which already had a couple LED case fans, so I didn't think of using the old case's single 80mm fan until a couple days ago. basically, i just hooked it up and electrical taped one end to the case bottom and let the top part rest sorta slanted on the case side. Luckily it's sitting low enough that the window doesn't show it off from most angles. i haven't really tested the cooling effectiveness, since i'm not all that into overclocking, but i thought it would be nice for the card to have some sort of air pointed at it. go ahead and laugh if you want, i'll have real mods eventually
yea, it's pointed right at the card, probly doesn't get very much air to it, though. i would've compare overclocks with & without the extra fan, but since the card's heatsink was the only thing cooling it, i didn't bother trying to o/c.
This could be fairly decent if you built a duct for this fan (basically forcing all the air to the heatsink) After this it might be fairly good at cooling it!! Warning: This would be too much weight for your gfx card and would probably crack it! I would prop the fan with somehing .. maybe supported mainly from the top of the case with some thin cables or something.
