    Got a spare power supply? Ever take modding to the next level and wire up yr own gadgets and gear? Just curious if that fan works? You need the Ghetto Mod Testing Station!!!

    All you need are a spare PSU, a few L brackets, and some extra cut off plexi and you too can have yrself a Ghetto Mod Testing Station!!!
    [IMG]

    In order to get the PSU to start, take a small piece of hard wire (I cut a section from a large safety pin) and bend it into a ] shaped jumper. With the PSU off (!!) and unplugged bridge pin 18 (green wire) to any of the pins with a black wire (ground). Of course, at this point, test it and make sure that it will start.

    After that, measure up yr plexi and build a little enclosure. Mine could be better, but I just used some cheap castoff plexi and Goop the hold the PSU in.

    [IMG]

    The testing posts are 5v, 12v and gound and intended for bare wire connections, the molex connectors are pretty straightforward anf the four pin fan connection is extendable ( hangs out the side!)

    Just make sure that you allow for some air input through the enclosed end or you risk the chance of yr PSU overheating.

    And finally, a pic of the Ghetto Mod Testing Station in action, with ubuquitous bloo leds...

    LOL not really....just holds the testing posts and molex connections, and makes the the whole thing a little safer when dealing with bare wire connections

    the black, green and red parts you see are screw post test connectors, wrap the bare wires there and screw them down...

    hehe, s'not that hard really, if you remember the two golden rules;
    1) unplug it while yr workin' on it...
    2) use a really long stick to turn it on in case it explodes

    always works fer me...:D

    Yeah, They were out of a power supply from an OLD 24Vdistribution system... They will smoooooooooooooth out anything... This thing does a flatline on an oscilloscope... just try that with a switching supply from a PC.... they are 330,000pf, or 1/3 farad a piece at 85V... The only problem is if you just unplug the thing, they will still power an led for about 35 minutes...

    yellow = 12

    yellow+red = 7
    12+5=7 :)

    Almost... If you use Red for your Ground, then the Yellow is 7, but in the original configuration, yellow is 12V over black...

    Common config goes

    y b b r
    12 0 0 5

    ive got mods rigged up, but its time to learn...

    so lets say i wanted to power anything which required 5v max. just take to female molex pins and connect themt o my wire, insert into red and black in any molex... work?

    -Black=0
    -------------------
    5Volts....

    Yellow=12
    - Red=5
    -------------
    7 volts....

    Or you could power it with USB, that's 5V also

    it's got 5V but not much current... You'd be lucky to light a couple LED's anyways, one of the 4 wires for USB is strictly for power to the device... And it would seem that you could use a USB hub...even an internal one would work... if you need 5 inside the case, use the molex, if it has to be external, use the usb...
