That's not even close to the same technique under discussion. That's just normal retouching. I'd be more concerned with the fact they used a different head and body! Incidentally, I have every copy of Vogue (US, Italian and British) since 2004, and have access to every copy since 1982. Why not just retouch it using paintbrush, heal and clone... and skill. There is no technique to replace talent, which is why a top end retoucher in London earns a fortune. Just practice. Every minute spent on researching all these methods posted on the web, is minute wasted where you could have been practicing using the more conventional retouching tools more expertly. ...oh.. and buy a decent graphic tablet. Trying to retouch with a mouse is like trying to write with boxing gloves on.
Maybe a little more camaraderie in applying critisicm to other peoples work was the point I was originally making.
Which one of my responses to the OP are you referring to? This one? or this one with a SMILEY at the end? or maybe it was this one... None of those are particularly caustic. Besides, it's funny YOU are complaining, and not MDK. Who gives you the right to lecture people on whether they patronise people with half-assed, non-committal platitudes, or offer real advice? If anyone wants to complain, it should be MDK, because I don't recall critiquing any of your work.. so maybe you should mind your own business? It's for this reason I left this forum alone, and probably will do again. People just want to congratulate one another on their use of technique, and when someone with an industry context comes along to offer advice you get accused of being some kind of fire breathing monster! Maybe I should just compile a list of nice things to say about people's work, and then just randomly cut and paste meaningless, but polite comments instead. Would that be more to your liking? If people post images in here I assume they're doing so to get feedback and critique, especially from people with 28 years in the photographic industry. If all they want is congratulating by their peers, then peopel shoudl say so, and I'll happily leave you all to it. Ultimately, that will be of no use to anyone... but will be much nicer I suppose. (sigh) I posted that it was great lighting, great pose, and a good model.. but too retouched... what exactly is wrong with that? Hell's teeth you're sensitive. Please.. don't try to earn a living with a camera because people out there will just tear you a new one daily, and if you're QQing over my comments to someone else... god help you if someone ever criticises your own work. LOL Please fill out the complaint form...
Actually a lot of retouchers are doing the frequency split thing now. It lets you work on the high detail parts (pores, hair, etc) separately from the underlying tones. In many ways it can be more work but gives a better result. But yes, a graphics tablet is a MUST. I really need a new one, I'm using a 12 year old Wacom Graphire that has a spot on the surface that the tablet grinds over
I got rid mine because it had worn away. I recently got a Intuos medium... beautiful tablet. Worth every penny.
Boy I wish I knew what you guys were on about. I tried to get rid of a shadow round a picture of my daughter using some old paintshop pro software and it was really awkward to do.
Again....this. The Intuos 4 is a dream. The programmable soft keys are, hands down, insane. From Starcraft to Sketchup to PS to anything; it rocks.
Some more unedited shots on my flickr from the set , I have a wacom bamboo pen got it for christmas it is very nice to use only cheap but does the job.
Thank you , I should go back and re-edit this shot now I've got a bit better and more consistant with my editing.
