Windows Gizmondo gadget hits the shelves

The BBC has this on another portable gaming device...

The Gizmondo combined media player, phone and gaming gadget goes on sale on Saturday.

Priced at £229, the handheld device is debuting in the UK and goes on sale in the US and mainland Europe in the next few weeks.

A catalogue of about 20 games is being prepared for the gadget including The Great Escape and Conflict Vietnam.

The British-backed gadget faces stiff competition from handheld gaming devices made by Nintendo and Sony.

It packs a lot of features, is anyone going to be buying one of these?

 

I won't be buying one. I've got a DS for playing games and my phone will do everything else it does.

It may have better specs than the DS and PSP but the games will pale in comparison to what the DS and PSP have and are coming soon.

 

Not enough advertising to create product awareness - itll flop unless something happens to make it more popular.

i posted this about 4 montsh ago woth release dates and the news about Londons flagship fleet street store which opens today but i was ignored and flamed...this console is awesome and IS more powerful than the psp but psp have marketing and of course the sony name and the great games so i dont know really, Ice

 

The only thread I can find about Gizmondo which was posted by you is this one here, and with 27 replies in total I would hardly say you were ignored...

 

lol. gizmondo - no chance.

They chose totally the wrong time to try and introduce a portable console to the world. They are in direct competition with the corporate giants Sony and Nintendo and to be honest they don't stand a chance. Both Sony and Nintendo could drop the prices of their units by 50% and totally kill off the Gizmondo instantly. That is if they feel threatened, which I'm sure they don't.

Yup, and at £229 I don't know who (apart from fanboys that is) will buy it over a PSP or DS.

I agree with Monkeyspank - it'll be extremely hard to compete with both gaming giants, it looks big (not saying the DS isnt) and with a pretty crappy name i doubt itll be sucessful, even if it is powerful etc. Anyone remember the NeoGeo? And who the hell bought the Ngage?

Sony dont have enough units to satisfy the Jap, Eu and American markets that's all. Sure, again we get the thick end of the stick i spose being last.

 

Yeah I agree Sony take the piss sometimes with their release dates as do most companies nowadays unfortunately

Still, given the choice to wait a few more weeks for a PSP or pay £229 now for the Gizmondo I know what I would choose

as said, who here actually knew this was being released? i dont see it selling very well.

and as for sony being slow, its to be expected. The company are in huge loss at the moment world wide, have been cutting jobs left right and centre, have talked about getting rid of a huge percentage of staff across europe. They dont even have a market research department in europe. Can you name any other multinational that doesnt research who its going to sell all these products it makes too?

and i havent ever seen a neogeo around ever... but i no people who have the ngage...

 

Me... and my Missis.... we've both got Neogeo pocket colors and both got n-gage's (although we've both got new phones since!)
