Google turned up a very common question: "How do I make Ubuntu/Gnome show a different wallpaper on each virtual desktop." Subquestion: "How do I make each have its own set if icons/short-cuts." Compiz for 3-D desktop cube is honestly, not that elegant of a solution compared to scroll-wheel down with a nice slide effect. And it is one hell of a resource hog to get the result I want. Most of the threads I found were ~2008. Have there been any developments? I like the look of Gnome over KDE. Thanks.
