I have a GTX 260 216 Core and I can pick another one up off Ebay for round £70/£80 or should I get a 460 GTX.

What would you guys do? If I got another GTX 260 216 Core, how much of a performance bump would I be looking at?

I'm sure theres a lot of GTX 260 owners right now thinking what to do as the performance increase from this to an GTX 460 is round 20% for a lot of money and going SLI would be the cheaper options you think for value/performance.

The first thing you have to ask yourself its how much do you game, i mean, are you planning to keep gaming in the future with new releases

The GTX 460 its actually a great card, plus you get DX11 support. So i think you will eventually have to upgrade, so why not to do it now.

Personally, I'd probably go for another 260, it'll give you around 85% increase in performance (provided the rest of your system is up to spec).

Then you have some money saved to got towards a GTX 5xx or Radeon 6xxx!

Well two 260's aren't as fast as a gtx 480, but two 460's will be and a little faster, if you want to look at it that way. So I guess it boils down to, do you need the speed of a gtx 480 and above. And do you want DX11 right now. I'd say that there aren't enough games to warrant DX11 at the moment tho.

Myself....I'd buy a 460 right now and then once I had some spare cash, I'd get a second for SLI.

Also you don't mention what resolutions you play at which might help people, help you with your choice.

I also forgot to mention that the 460's are great overclockers, if you like to overclock.

I did the same as what the OP is considering - I had a 260 GTX and had recently bought a new monitor so I needed moar power. Its cheaper to add a second card than buy a whole new one considering the boost in power you get. Although it was easy for me as I have a SLI motherboard and a PSU with enough juice.

I'd go for the 460 then upgrade to SLi with it when prices drop.
My 470's have dropped around £30+ since June.
    Future-proof with DX11

I game a lot and its BC2 thats really wanting me to upgrade for better performance inn FPS but you don't see much DX11 goodness around much or tell any difference between DX10/DX11 other then tessellation and even then its used very little in the game.

Would love to see some benchmarks showing off the 260 SLI against a 480. Then use that as a reference so I can then compare them to the 460's in SLI and see the difference.

I play at 1080P native resolution of my 46" HDTV, so I can some times get away with low AA as I sit 5/6 feet away.

I'd agree with Phaze, if you calculate the costs of the different options:

SLI GTX 260's - only £80 for him.
    GTX 460 1GB - £175
    SLI GTX 460's - £350

The SLI gtx 260's will beat the single 460 for less than half the cost.
The SLI GTX 460's will beat the 260's but for nearly 5 times the cost.

IMO, the performance increase it not worth it for the much much higher cost.

No i agree with you both..
Just if he has the cash & wants dx11, 460's are the way to go..

i ran Sli 260's and was very happy with them.
Had a bit of cash and wanted a change to dx11.

Completely outclassed by 260 SLI or not as cost effective as a 460.
