Items that had fried/stopped working in the last few weeks 1) ICute 450w PSU 2) Epox 8KHA+ 3) Visiontek Geforce 3 4) 17" Vivtron monitor and added to the list today a: P4 2.4ghz I traded a friend of mine a 1600+ for the 2.4ghz he got for free. The guy hates Intel (no idea) and so he said he was just gonna put it in a system he was building for his mom, and I worked out a trade with him for a nice AMD processor hehe So I get it an notice a couple pins are bent over on it...so I grit my teeth and get a razor blade and slowly bend the first one back, success. The second one, I work the blade under it and *pop* the whole pin falls off >_< So with that nice story as a lead in I guess I'm asking if this doesn't just magically work without that pin there, is there anyway I can fix it...considering I don't have any sort of soldering tool that small. Thanks guys
yes...well I'd have to just glue a peice of wire about the same size in there...because I promptly lost the pin in the carpet after it fell off
yikes.. could be worthwile to save.. ive seen a friend resolder pins on a cpu (granted it was years ago, and a 486 with many less pins than a p4.. but it just takes some patience and skills.. -scoob8000
I have seen people using car demister paint to unlock athlons by using it as a glue to hold down fine pieces of wire across the bridges. It may hold a piece of wire to the chip, but I'm not too hopeful. Alternatively use a small piece of solid core telephone wire, put it into the appropriate hole in the socket and trim it so that it has a pressure contact when the chip is inserted. Please note, both these ideas may damage the chip if you make a short circuit.
You have my sympathy, my friend... Hope this makes you feel better, I've fried 2x Enermax 350 PS and 1x Generic 350 PS. 1 - Asus P5-AB along with it's AMD K6-2 500MHZ 2 - AMD 1600 XP 1- 17" visiontech monitor (I ran Civ III with boggy .exe file, needed to be patched before being run) 1 - 256 MB Ram This has been in the bast month and a half... I thought I was cursed till I read your post... Hope the soldering works out...
yes, if I can't get it to work he'll trade me back...but I mean come on, it was an extra free gigahert over my 1600 >_<
have you tried it, I remember seeing someone having lost a pin on their p4 they tried it and it worked, if you plug it in the worst that will happen is that it doesent work right? besides that you asare fu><ored
yah...I'm waiting on a mobo to try it out. I'm hoping it'll just work waah: ) but if it doesn't I'll just stick some wire in there and try not to short the sucker.
there are lots and lots of ground pins IIRC so if its one of them, it won't make any difference cross your fingers
Take a look on Intels site to find the pin layouts for the CPU....if its a ground pin or one of those that won't do anything then theres no problem! These might contain the information you're looking for... Here (A .pdf with Socket 478 guidelines - may contain pin layout with diagram) Hope this helps
