Why is it called golden sample? How do u get it? Why do they have it? and a few more questions that i cant think of... so if u have any info on this subject it would be much appreciated! Thanks Ace
Are you talking about Gainward gfx cards? Are those available in the US any more? I had a Golden Sample GF3 Ti200 back in the day. It clocked from 179MHz core to 279MHz core without volt mods which was totally unheard of, even with volt mods. I was the 3rd person in the world to break 10k in 3DMark01....LOL. Those were the days. Basically the Gainward Golden Samples were supposed to be the top OCing line. But their GF4 series didn't do as well and I haven't seen them in the US since.
The only Gainward cards I've seen in the US for the last couple of years or so are way old models, such as GF3 mentioned above. Guess there aren't any current US distributors. That's too bad, because they're great cards. eVGA is my next brand of choice.
so it is made by gainward and was meant for overclocking. i was just wondering because coolmiester used a golden sample graphics card in his 50th Anniversary Stacker
Gainward golden sample cards were given the name due to being able to hold much higher clocks on usually both the memory and core with ease - Guaranteed by gainward. Nowadays although they still use the name, the clocks that they hold are not much different from the competitors so not so much more incentive.
I agree. It used to mean it was their premium 'best in class' offering but since the GF3 days they haven't been anything special, esp with so many makers producing cards with higher clocks, improved cooling etc.
