Hello, can anyone recommend a good video converter, I have some files which are .MPEG .MOV and I need them to be in AVI format. Running OSX snow leopard. cheers looking into imtoo, but looks like i shall be paying for that
Quicktime x or whatever it's called in snow leopard since you don't have to pay for the pro? I'll have a peek into handbrake and see if that supports it as well (it should do) Imovie/garageband?
Just found out that you can do it with garageband. Drag and drop the video from finder into an open garageband project and wait for it to load the movie. Then click the share menu at the top and "export to disk" select "expert setting" for the video setting and click export, then select your video options in the next mini menu (avi is there). I've tested this with a .mov file and it works. Edit, after playing the file and comparing it to the original it does have quite an effect on quality (though that might have something to do with .avi or maybe there are more settings elsewhere but try garageband first. If you don't like the results try doing something similar with Imovie(there's probably more options in Imovie))
thanks edge, Ive not seen anything in imovie that can convert the files to avi :S will look more closely later though. I think the only thing you can do with imovie in terms of converting is where you export (share) it to quick time, then quick time will convert it to put on a dvd, thats a complete guess though as ive not tried it myself. can the free non pro quick time convert my files then? maybe I should buy the pro version
Turns out that quicktime can't, btw you have the "pro" version with SL. Edit: Imovie can only select resolutions not formats, the std output format is .mov no idea how to change it.
oh really? i swear I have the non pro on my SL. will check that aswell later exciting ! Hmm will have to look into the imtoo software, looks fairly detailed. Or is there some other sort of video editing software that is better than imovie that i could look into. I quite enjoyed making my video of my snowboarding holiday
Final cut studio is used by professionals and various video based course students and i believe it is only available on mac. But it is not cheap £816 for studio, £129.99 for express(linked) in the apple store. Edit: Final cut is only for mac, it's by Apple.
ah yes final cut, heard of that, didn't realise it cost that much though! i shall dig around see what i can find. I may just stick with a simple cheap converter and get into editing after seeing my friend who has all that stuff
http://www.zamzar.com converts online if you can cope with the wait. or try mediacoder if you fancy a challenge in getting darwine working.
cheers barndoor well i dont mind the wait, sadly its the 100mb limit stopping me. seems like imtoo is looking to be the best option available to me
Either Handbrake or Mediacoder should be able to do the job. There's a million encoders out there but these two are simple and get the job done well.
+1 for handbrake and regarding regular Quicktime, Version 7 is included on the install dvd under extras on SL, from there you can still upgrade to pro and get all the usefulness.
