Okay well i love racing games but for some odd reason i always play them on my computer only...
And my 5850 just took a crap on me now im using a 7800 gtx....im reduced to a 10 year old dell gpu!!! aleast it run sli haha

Okay well right now im doing nfs shift and a little bit of nfs undercover and some pro street.

I don't care about this dx11 crap i don't care for eye finity bc i have no room on my desk for more then 2 monitors and i just want a gpu that will run them at a very good rate that wont lag and under 200 bucks if possible i will buy a used gpu if i ahve to and my system can do triple sli and crossfire

    System
    core i5 750 OCed to 3.6ghz
    4gb of ddr3 1666 g skill rip jaws
    750 watt corsair
    2 750gb Seagate barracuda

why not get the 5850 replaced under warranty? Unless it is something that you have done to it.

What resolution do you play the games at?

the 7800GTX isn't 10 years old for starters, and Geforce 2 would be closer to the mark in that argument.

However, it would seem the 4870 came out top in most race sims, i know it would run circles around my GTX280 in Race driver GRID, however i went for the GTX280 for cuda acceleration but that's another argument all together.

Big question is, what's your budget? You could go the cheaper route and get a 2nd hand 4870/90 off ebay, or buy a new 5770

Race sims are often more reliant on CPU than GPU, with the exception of GRID and DiRT which are both heavily GPU dependant.

I was able to play games such as Burnout, GTR Evolution, Race 07, rFactor etc. on max settings with a HD4350. Using a GTX260 now and that runs them plus GRID, Blur and DiRT 1+2 fine on max settings and 8x AA.

Im confused? Even if you bought the 5850 at launch it should still be in warranty, Just get it replaced.

Seems daft to buy a new card if you dont have to.

+1 on both of these ^^ - get your 5850 replaced under warranty if you can before deciding to fork out another $200.

Is yours a three-screen setup? I guess if so it would be car on middle screen as normal and then left and right views on the monitors either side?

Oddly, I'd never heard of it until you mentiond it here... looks interesting though :)

yeah middle screen is the main action, the left and right are for peripheral vision, but the immersiveness is amazing - even bit-tech admit its difficult to go back.

There a whole bunch of games which kick ass in eyefinity - Dirt 2, Grid, HAWX, BC2 are the stand-out ones for me.

depending on brand, some allow aftermarket cooling to be fitted.

Have you tried to send it back? If not you havent really got anything to lose if you've still got the stock heatsink.

Id just put it on and request a replacement under warranty, the worst they can say is no you broke it.

But A.They might not notice, or B.offer a discount on the same card.

If you put the original h/s & fan back on the card, would they know that you had watercooled it? Does removing the original h/s & fan to remove dust void the warranty?
