i can recommend simplyroot - they are in germany but if you ask info_at_simplyroot.de it shouldn't be a problem. they offer a v-server for 9€/month and you can have a test-server for one week to try everything out.

300gb transfer, 7.5 gb hdd, 512mb ram, unlimited number of databases and you can install any service you like...

Isn't that too expansive for the specification they give ?

at the time i got mine it was by far the cheapest i could find. it's not only hosting, it's a complete v-server with root-access. maybe there are better offers out there by now.

godaddy I would guess are going to be pretty good. Seeing as though they seem to be the only hosting/domain name company that seem to be able to afford to advertise on TV in the UK.

I would guess they have built up quite a large user base to get to that point.

You'll get what you pay for with hosting. If you're seeing 3TB of transfer for $5 a month, it means they've massively oversold their servers and both general hosting and especially any database access is going to be crazy-slow.

I use nearlyfreespeech.net which is pay-as-you-go so you pay for only the resources you use. Works out great for me, but right now my needs aren't that great. Not the fastest thing ever but it makes for a decent development server which is primarily how I use it. MediaTemple.net I only hear good things about; they start at $20/mo but their service unlike most hosts doesn't suck so it's worth the extra cost if you're doing anything remotely important.

hey thanks.. I'm happy to help- I found out my pops is having some issues and this keeps me constructive.. I bite my lip alot when read some posts though XD

but you could go with them.. my friend uses godaddy for domain registrations- even though you can find them cheaper elsewhere.. I've dealt with other isps like bravenet (only because the guy I wrote the site for liked them- here www.frenchiedreams.com I wrote this early last year [if you pull down the top frame, very top of the page you can see my credits])

that site is totally maintained by an admin menu written from scratch.. he just dumps pictures into a folder, selects where he wants them and the gdi plugin does all the resizing on server, I have the pages updated automatically, news, ect.. the problem with making such a site is.. I don't get repeat business =] he can manage the whole thing by himself without knowing squat.. also use sites like slide so he can change up the look of the site with a simple app.. but aplus makes hosting like bravenet look amateur as far as what's offered..

there are free hosts if you don't have a webserver setup, like here http://byethost.com/

you can troubleshoot your stuff then without being committed to hosting fees.. hope it helps, gl
