i'm looking for a good mIRC client to install on suse 9 any suggestion? (don't say kvirc...it's ridicolous)
well, first off, mIRC is a client that uses the irc protocal... but give X-Chat a try I use it all the time
ok...i finally installed it correctly...maybe i forgot to "make install" it is better than the others clients i tryed but is still very far from mirc for win :| ...anyway i have to like it
omg, i'm gonna take this thread back to life. i'm still looking for an irc client to substitute (a bit) mirc. i was searching the forum and found this thread again. so, 2,5 years later....any irc client? right i'm using irssi, but i need a tray icon to notify me when new mess/query arrive (maybe there is any script?) i tryed kvirc (again) but it's too much bloated (and it stopped working too!) so i tryed xchat, no comment. i tryed an other one but can't remember the name. and don't tell me gaim, since i hate it.
You seem really, really picky. And the pickiness is based on mIRC; an application that is pretty damn poor by itself. I've used xchat for years and find it wonderful. irssi is fine if you're stuck to a CLI, but in the weird and wonderful world of X - xchat is definitely the best I've seen/tried. I even use it on Windows when I can. I was oper'ing a server that required some specialised mIRC scripts for a while
well, honestly i don't know the basic mirc very well since i always used the noname script. i need a client with few things but with a tray icon which works the way i want. it must flash on query msg, channel msg (of selected chans) and other things. and if i click it the client must open in the desktop i'm right now. it doesn't seem difficult but xchat do this very badly. anyway i think it isn't only me who is unhappy with "known" clients. i've been searching over freshmeat and sourceforge and there are hundred of mirc client in planning phase. sadly very few of them will come to a production state because there are few developer for each project (mostly just 1).
the latest wine (0.9.20) puts my apps in the proper tray, previous versions didn't. I'll give xchat another mention even though you seem to dislike it for whatever reason - it has a tray icon though!
