I just now realized, yeah I found a LEGAL OEM copy of winows XP for $145, but thats just the friggin OS right, I need exel, word and the likes for homework, those have to be purchased seperately correct. damn I hate how something necesary to your comp is such a RIP OFF. I need windows so im compatible in my house's LAN and at gaming LAN, and to transfer work between home and school.:cries: I'm broke as it is, damnit this blows:cries:

    Preaching to the choir friend.

I needed Office XP for school...even the school copy was expensive as hell.

Fortunately I used to work for Gateway, so I was able to get a free legal copy of XP Pro.

Had to buy XP Home for my moms system...$99 at Wally World.

Waaay, too much money, I mean really, when you think about how many systems in the WORLD use MS OS's, do they really need to charge that much? I don't think so.

No wonder the -ahem- other methods of acquiring software are so popular.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were some free M$ compatable alternatives out there? Well check these out:
    FREE word alternative
    FREE Excel alternative
Oh sorry, The excel alternative is only available on Linux! How about changing your OS? Guess what, Linux is FREE.

Sorry, must stop keeping on about it.

dude, open office is sweet. EXACTLY what I was looking for!

It's got word, exel, power point and some website thing (I got dreamweaver, so wont need this) but the most important thing for me is, it can open and save as file types from all of the MS products it duplicates! AND ITS TOTALLY FRIGGIN FREE!!!! WOOOOOT That just brought the price of my computer down to $917.27 (without dual monitor, but i found some 17" ones for 89 a piece!) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thank you mods for not deleteing/closing this thread, I know it was starting to look like warez talk, but look, SOMETHING GOOD CAME OF IT AND WERE NOT HELPPING BILLY BOY AND MORE THAN WE HAVE TO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've downloaded it too, going to use it instead of Office 2000, it has jus as many features, but without all the bloat, so far I'm very impressed.
