Good sweet Lord, this has been nothing but trouble. My current problem comes up when I boot my computer, what do I get? An insidious amount of annoying, short, continuous click/beeps, and an immediate refusal by my computer to do anything, responding with "Error in loading the operating system", or something to that effect. Suppose I should pop some statistics in: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 Rev 2.0 Mobo Superlocked Athlon XP 2500+ Barton Supplied-With-Case RaidMAX 420W PSU with underampped 12v Rail Maxtor 60 Gig UATA HD Hitatchi 60 Gig UATA HD Mitsumi 54x32x54 CD-RW BFG MX4000 Vid 256Meg K-Byte PC2700 RAM 5x 80mm Case Fans ATT Copper Heatsink w/ 60mm Fan It all started when I replaced my Heatsink fan, my freakin' heatsink fan... of all things. My MSI board proceeded to randomly and without any provocation, die. I took the trip up to Fry's to return the beast, where they could not get it to boot either, and refunded my money. Anyway, while there, I picked up the Gigabyte board. Now even worse things are happening, last night, at a buddy o' mines place, I tried to install WinXP with my bran-spankin'-new Maxtor 60 gig, bought literaly 10 minutes before I was at his place. What happened, you may ask? Not a freakin' whole lot. During the format process, I lost power constantly, due to my crappy PSU, so I unplugged everything. Eventually, I was able to get through the format, and subsequently start the installation of XP. To make matters even worse, during THIS I lost power, and upon restarting my computer, could not get it to read a damn thing. Not my CD, not his CD, not another friends CD, nada. After much cursing and throwing of case screws, I decided to turn off the system, and watch Naruto for a while, to cool my brain. Whence I returned, I booted up with my copy, and lo, success! However, I had to format through the blue-backgrounded DOS/Windows business. During THAT format, I lost power... AGAIN. Now when I boot my computer up, I get the most agitating and computer-scary clicks/beeps I've ever heard, and I get the "Error loading operating system" message when it tries to boot from any source. I am completly lost, confused, pissed and unsure as to what my course of action should be... any thoughts?
Get A New Psu For Sure, and take some optional componats out which may be taking up too much power. Then do another reformat I feel for you
The thing is, when I take all the extra crap out, I can get it to run but not without the psychotic clicks. And the "Error loading operating system" makes it impossible to get into floppy/CD/HD to do a reformat.
Try going to the BIOS and boot from the CD, put the OS installation disk in the CD Drive and it should boot from the CD. As this is before the OS is loaded, you shouldnt get any error messages. The OS is probably corrupt. If the problem contiunues, try another HDD
Aye, tried that method, as well as setting the order to Floppy->CD->HD to try and boot from WinXP Boot Floppies... Same thing happens with both my Hitachi and Maxtor drives... >_<
RaidMAX that came with the case, specs are... +3.3 26A +5 32A +12 13A <---I know, I know -5 .5A -12 .8A +5Vsb 2A Well, I hate to say it, but it ran on this fine before, but it might not be doing it now. Just for reference, the two HDs have not been plugged in together yet, only one or the other througought this process.
What happens when u boot from the CD? If the error messages come up saying that it cannot load the OS, then theres something wrong as the OS shouldnt load up. Are you having problems trying to install the OS? It could be a damaged CD or something? EDIT: What does the error messages say, and when does it come up, before or after the computer tries to load the OS?
Says: Verifying DMI Pool Data... Boot from CD: Press Any Key to Boot from CD.....Error in loading operating system. Note, it does not allow me to boot from CD, as keypresses do nothing.
Have you tried another CD-ROM drive? That would be my next job, after I'd checked all the cables were tight and obvious stuff like that.
I'm assuming u are using a USB keyboard. Enable USB on the BIOS, if they are not enabled u cant use the USB ports, if that doesnt work, try a PS/2 keyboard - I have an old one here which I use if USB fails. Maybe ur bios is corrupt, or mobo? update the bios. I say invest in a thing which I've got, its called a D-bracket (my one) and it plugs into the mobo and tells u what is happening during boot. There are 4 LEDs, which gives a combination of lights, by looking at the guide u can tell whats gone wrong during boot, it was extremely useful for me once
Yea, used to have a D-Bracket, worked fairly well... Anyway, yes, I tried my friends Lite-On DVD/CD to load it, same problems. Nope, PS/2 Key/Mouse. I'm thinking of trying the BIOS flash though, that may do it, but I've got to go off to work now, arsers call me in on my day off and all that. I'll try that when I get home, and report back.
When you boot from CD, I am not sure why it says 'error in loading Operating System', if you are booting from an OS CD, you should enter setup, not actually load the OS? I thinks its down to the mobo/BIOS, you've tried changing CD-Rom drives and HDD's, I can't think what other devices it could be. There is one option however, that is to take your hard drive to another computer, install the operating system and set it up, go back to your computer and plug in the HDD, see what happens.
