Hi, I have been looking for a laptop for a while now and today i found one just within my price range of £600. Heres a link http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/519340/ACER-AS6930G-744G32/tab/specification# I want it mainly for playing World of Warcraft and a few other games but they are less important. Do you think this laptop will be good enough and is a decent price for the specs? Also I saw this in the shop so i poked around on it and found that it only comes with vista 32 bit so iirc it wont use all 4gb of RAM right? I also asked if it came with a vista disk and they said no so if i wanted to upgrade it to 64 bit would i have to pay for another copy of vista?
this would be fine for WOW. Maybe bit overkill. And you wont notice the difference between using 3g as of 4g off ram. Not unless your using ram intensive software but i would on a laptop anyway. My laptop has full hd screen and runs wow on medium setting with a Gforce9200m
looks ok although i doubt comet is the best place to look. try laptopsdirect.co.uk they have some very good prices. just bear in mind there after sales support is crap although i wouldnt expect comets to be any better.
hmm well ive just found the same laptop on laptopsdirect (same price) however the model names are identical BUT one has 1GB of VRAM the other has 512MB so which one is right but yeah thats all i cud find, guess its a good price then which is a change from comet.
cant really comment on the actual laptop itself, but that does appear to be a decent price. It varies by a couple of £ here and there. comet have some codes which should work if buying online "SAVE 30" saves £30 when spending over £500 "SAVE 20" saves £20 when spending over £400 should be valid till the 18th may. and dont forget to use http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ or http://www.quidco.com/
Ok i have found a small problem. Most of the time when i plug the battery in it does not show up in the bottom right, so i cant see how long the battery has left or how charged it is. Is this a common problem with laptops? is it a hardware or software problem?
My girlfriend got one of these laptops, albeit a lower model without the M9600GT and it wouldnt run off the battery at all. If you un-plugged it from the mains it just went off. she took it back and got it replaced.
Its just an option that you can change. If you find the power management options it should be in there.
Ok i have checked the power options but i cant find anything. im using vista if that makes a difference.
Any idea if the VGA port is an input or output? http://actualreality.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/leftside.jpg Im trying to connect my 360 to use my laptops screen but im not having any luck I have a cable that fits into the VGA port and the port on the back of my 360 but i cant find anyway to swap between inputs on my laptop
I've got that laptop and play WoW on it I can run WoW at native res with pretty much max settings at a solid 60fps Doesn't run hot and is quiet.. Quality is alright and customer service isn't amazing.. but i would definatly recommend it
Bad customer service shouldn't be so with Acer. But I have to admit judging from that nice graphics memory and decent processor speed that it's indeed a very good pick at that price range. I used to look up to the Acer aspire 4530 which is around $780 but its processor isn't Intel which has better chances of having heating problems. I just hope this model will be available for auction at Ebay, Bestbuy or at Gobid.
Thats what i thought. Have you got any ideas on how to get the laptop to use that input? EDIT: Nevermind, i just checked the comet website and it says its an output
I *think* he was teasing you But yeah laptops VGA ports are designed for you to connect the to large desktop monitors when you get home
