    Hello all!

I currently have a Logitech X540 as a sound system for my PC. They are now developing some problems. I also want some speakers with a bit better sound.

So far I haven't really found anything that is a good replacement. I don't really need 5.1 as long as I get good sound.

The closest one so far is a set of KRK Rokit 5 monitors. Problem is that they are a tad big (physical measurements), and I don't think monitors are the best option.

So, does anyone have a good suggestion to something I could use?

    TIA! :)

edit: I have been looking at the Logitech Z5500, but I don't think it will offer significantly better sound. Logitech always seems to have this annoying, unprecise, rumbling sub woofer in their systems.

The best speakers for a PC are ones that are not branded as "PC Speakers" but have an actual wood core, over cheap plastic. You haven't mentioned anything with regards to budget, in which case I could easily recommend a pair of book shelf speakers for ~$8,500 or something for ~$300-400 but from my experience it's never worth it to buy a cheap pair of speakers as a good pair will probably last about as long as you will.

If you are not bothered about 5.1 then my personal favourite are the Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1. The cheapest I can find them after a v quick look is £109 from ebuyer

I have had them for a few years now and they are fantastic much better quality than any Logitech speaker I have bought in the past.

these, i honestly couldnt believe the sound quality for the money with these speakers. really solidly built as well with nice thick metal on the cabinets and well shielded cables. plus you only have one cable going to the pc and you dont need to buy an amp as they are active. quality product i recommend them all the time.

    Relatively cheap and decent-sounding speakers:

    Altec Lansing MX5021
    Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0

    Slightly steeper, good-sounding speakers:

    Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.1

yep i considered these too, for years they were considered the only decent all in one PC speakers. they look like a nice product but the Aego M's are a newer design and ever so slightly cheaper (by about a tenner)

EDIT: and they're british built, which swung it for me :)

They're great. 10 people who have heard mine went out and bought some.

The z5500's are great but that sub is big and needs to be 50cm from your PC at least.

The Aego Ms really are good, one of my friends has them and I would certainly buy them if I was after new speakers.
