I'm looking for just a little like 5-6 inch touch screen that I can link up to a kiosk-type management system. Like for lights in a house or possibly music. I'm going to make the interface I'm just looking for a small touch screen. Where's a good place to get them and what are your tips? I do, have a PDA that had a touch screen and I took it apart but the PDA didn't work and I'm not sure how to interface the screen with anything but I just thought I'd mention it. Thanks, Alex
Id suggest checking out ebay, I recently purchased one of these It works great and is quite slim once you remove it from its plastic caseing. In addition to some of the best prices around, the seller linked above also has the fastest delivery service out of hong kong I've ever seen, and I purchase asian products quite frequently. I had my screen not more than 2-days after payment cleared. It uses a standard USB Restistive Touch screen controller and a generic 7" resistive touch panel that works wonderfully with fingers or stylus'. If you are just after the touch panel and not the screen your best bet would be to buy an eeePC touch screen kit, as they are probally the cheapest options out there for a 7" resistive touch panel contolled via USB. (Ive installed and worked with many of these kits and would suggest using the ebay seller "Kiddshop")
By touch panel do you mean a panel you can add to an already working screen? or what is the difference between the touch panel and the screen? Thanks, Alex PS Thank you and lol I love/hate when people try to put that stupid right click block on because it's so easily bypassed but still so restrictive. I LOVE tabs so I right click open new tab constantly and when they do that it just makes it a little bit harder for me to get the tab open its stupid. IF I wanted to steal their images bad enough a little right click block wouldn't stop me lol Also, what is the probability you think of interfacing the touch panel from the PDA with something? Do you think it'd be easier just to buy something?
Indeed you are correct. By touch panel I mean a resistive touch panel that can me overlayed on an existing screen, i used one in my eeePC mod if your looking for reference. Whereas a "touch screen" aready has such a device installed (infact the ebay auction i linked you to uses the EXACT same screen/contoller I used in my eeePC) As for using the PDA screen, I'd imagine it would be very difficult to interface with, I'd personally just buy a touch screen (like the one I linked in my first post, as I said I have one and love it)
$160 is a lot of money though that's why I'm looking at this(using the PDA screen) as a possibility. I'm looking at these touch panels for the eeePC they seem much cheaper I might go with that the issue there however is the face that I don't just have a 7" screen laying around lol. I don't know I'm just doing this for fun ATM trying to stay away from spending anything much higher than $70 on it. :-\
the touchpanels are very good im currently using a 17" one for my touchscreen jukebox - its a great cheap alternative.
