I was wondering about a good powersupply for maybe a dual video card set up in the future (when it is more affordable). Would a really strong one work as well? (Hiper) I seen powersupplies that advertise dual PCI-E connections with certification, but I don't see any that I like for my next project.

I have a Tagan TG480-U22 with two PCI-E connectors and 30A @ 12v. I've never used both plugs, just one for the 7800, but the rails are rock solid under load and it's a practically silent unit. I'd definitely recommend any of their supplies to someone who wanted a high-power system.

Word of warning though if you intend to use a smaller case - it's actually a tiny bit longer (a few cm) than a standard ATX supply. Hopefully that shouldn't be a problem :)

My Antec True550-EPS12v that I modded to have dual PCIE plugs is great. Their new Truepower-II 480w and 550w models both have two PCIE plugs, and the latter is acutally SLi certified. I'd highly recommend them, excellent, especially considering the price of competitors like the PCP&C. Very quiet too (well maybe the TP-II's are louder but I doubt it as they have a single 120mm instead of an 80/92 set)

A Seasonic 600 watt PSU will power anything quite happily. (I've seen it done with 4x Raptors, a 4800+, two 7800 GTXs, and two dual-layer DVD burners.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to research this some more to figure out which is probably the best. I getting a bit confused about the Hiper one which is my top pick because it looks cool and gets very good reviews. They have two PCI E ports but it is not dedicated. It looks like a splitter and some websites say it is SLI ready but not on the Hiper website. I have to look into it i guess. I dunno if anybody knows it is a bit off topic. How are the energy consumptions on these. I am just curious, would a 600 watt ps eat more power than a 400 watt ps on the same configuration.

Generally yes. A 600W is less efficient for an average high powered system (lets say it pulls 200-250W) compared to a 400W. The only time a 600W will be more effecient is when you very close to maxing out the full 400W (and thus the 400W PSU struggling), which i doubt any computer would do :p.

I'd recommend anything over 480w from Antec, Tagan, Hiper or OCZ

Enermax or OCZ > 480 Watts (depends on your budget)...

Ok i just put in an order for the new Hiper PS the 580 Watt one in black finish. I emailed Hiper back and forth and they told me basically it can do SLI if I wanted. It has modular locking cables, quick release molex connectors and also the fans are suppose to near quiet running the 1 120 mm and the 1 80 mm with all those vent holes.

Also I found out from them that the watts that needed will be the wattage that will be used. So if the computer uses 300 watts the ps will only generate 300 watts. I do not know how much wattage it generate though. It would be a interesting document to see how much power they use vs how much power they draw.

So I guess the default 400W PSU that comes with the Thermaltake Soprano won't be good for my 7800GTX SLI?

Any PSU from thermaltake wouldn't be a good idea for SLI. Definately not a 400w one that was included with the case.
