Neither will last a particularly long time. Stalker has some replay value, I think I played it about 2.5 times before getting bored. It should last you more than a week. Bioshock is fairly short, and is extremely linear, when replaying it you'll take almost exactly the same path - so it fails for your request. Decent game, but not what you're after right now.

Given that we seem to be in older-games territory here, I have to mention Morrowind. It's an absolutely awesome game, and two playthroughs will never be the same.

Having now played The Wticher I can also reccomend that, I haven't got very far yet but from what I've played of it, it's fantastic. I can't get over how well they managed to deliver the story, European RPGs can be a bit dodgy when it comes to things like dialogue and cut scenes but this one is great.

I will admit, I'd prefer a newer game (just for the eye-candy yes)!

If you want a newer game the Witcher looks pretty nice.

If you're into the space thing, play Homeworld 2. It's a strategy game with a great story (and superb artistic style) and is a bit of a challenge as well.

If you want to stay in the role-playing universe, the first Neverwinter Nights was pretty good as well. If you want utterly unrivaled free-roaming, play X2: The Threat or X3: Reunion, both of which are bigger and deeper, and fundamentally never-ending versions of Freelancer. (this is only if you REALLY want to kill time)

Or you could just play The Sims.

I'd have to say Morrowind as well. The diversity of gameplay experience is unbelievable, even though - on the surface - the game's quite straightforward. Also, the graphics aren't great anymore, but the gameworld has a certain artistic gleam to it. (It's the only game that ever had me watching sunsets )

I will admit that there is a lot to morrowind, but after playing oblivion, I just could not get into it. Maybe i'm spoiled in the same way that after playing supreme commander i cant go back to command and conquer. I tried it not too long back and got angry that i could not zoom with my mouse wheel.
Someone else mentioned X3: reunion. thats a good time waster. takes a while to get going in the game. I haven't even botherd with the plot yet. so far i have been setting up a trade network. I have a few ships, starting to make some money.

Homeworld 2 is also a good game, I do enjoy the story but I find that I can finish it in a day. the skirimsh mode can be a lot of fun, especially when you get some of the mods that are available for it.

I wouldn't bother with the plot in X3, it's only worth doing once you're powerful and are bored with the game (although make a new save slot for it as it effects some reputations)

I personally enjoy the PainKiller series... available through Steam, as well as retail boxed

There's really nothing much to think about, other than killing the baddies... which is just the way I like it :D

No one has mentioned Rise of Nations or Empire Earth? Both of those are two of my favorite RTS games of recent memory. I had one skirmish in EE 2 last a total of 26 hours from start to finish (all vs. all with like 8 CPU opponents) Did not play straight of course, played that game like 3-4 hours a day for a week and a half.

The campaign on both is good as well. I prefer the multi player in RoN to EE just because it is a little faster paced, plus I do like the resource management a lot more as well. But I will tell you, there's nothing quite like marching 200 troops into battle with 200 others and Empire Earth definitely lets me do that and I love large scale medieval battles ala the total war series (not quite as big but EE is real time as opposed to turn-based with separate battles :p)

^ I'm stupid to have not mention Rise of Nations, but was a bit averse to recommending Empire Earth because the battles can get long. I played a multiplayer game for 8 hours, and that was the last time I played it again.

Deus EX 1 + 2 (just treat 2 as a diffrerent game and not a sequal and its quite good)
Morrowind (not played oblivion but morrowind is the best RPg I have yet played)
stalker - tragicly bugged and could have been so much more but is still awsome
    Hl1 + all expansions + Hl2 + EP1 + Ep2
    portal (although is quite short)
    America Mcgess Alice
Far Cry <--- may be free now had a nice free form aproach that remind me of the deus ex do it your own way style
homeworld - one of the few emotive RTS's rember to read the back stories on the cd before play.

    Free ones!
Warzone 2100 - very good campain
Benath a steel sky <--- best point and click ever runs on everything now via scumm VM
Free space 2 (get from home of the underdogs) a space fps/sim with very good controlls and a story that gets you rearly involved

*of these morrowind will get you the most hooked and has the longest play time of aprox 600hrs of gameplay - I personaly played for 200hrs became master of the theives guild messed around alot, complted the story and then seteled down for married life with the cat women who says she loves you :) I thought at that moment It would be a good time to leave as everyone was happy. (thats how involving it is!)
