I can't remember, but I don't delete posts lightly so it must have been sufficently OT to make it worth while. I'd potentially do the same to the other stuff in this thread, but it'd involve deleting comments out of people's posts which I don't like to do. It's simpler to close them after becoming a flamefest which this will no-doubt turn into. Frankly I've considered taking over moderation of this forum and keeping snotty opinions confined to the bin, which would at least prevent me from rebutting people with my own replies in an attempt to put holier-than-thou people in their place. I do love a good argument, but even I know when it's fruitless. Fod's comment was rightly unacceptable, but I wanted to make it clear it's NO different than an attitude which is ripe in the M&TV forum, invariably when it comes to "*core" conversations.
glassjaw are kind of OK. erm. i'm finding it difficult to think of a band that are "hardcore". don't listen to much truly heavy stuff. does anyone like the mars volta? this is where the whole genre thing breaks down. my main beef about them is that it is actually impossible to classify music. i mean think about it for a second. without the lazy "pop" moniker, what would you classify kylie minogue's music as?
I have the carnal forge album, love COB (BYD is a good song), and listen to the band Bury Your Dead. Good music
I knew this was gonna happen but never the less... It annoys me to no end when people go around and say that a persons choice of music is weak or "dservers a kick the groinal area" ... thats what they like, get over it. Mods - feel free to lock this thread, its not going to do anyone any good.
Argh. I wasn't referring to people liking lost prophets.. I was referring to people labelling them as hardcore. Quite surprised that people misunderstood me tbh.
so many people on this forum would kick me in the groin then cos i would just call the music 'metal'... actually... i think theres (in this order) rock n roll rock metal heavy metal to call something hardcore by itself would be a bit pointless cos its like hardcore WHAT exactly? rap groups are hardcore, theres even hardcore dance music i think the point here is soulfly has proven 1983 was a cool as hell year to be born in oh wait uhhh yeh actually yeh that IS the point.
Punk, actually. It's a sub-genre of punk that is so incredibly huge most people don't bother saying punk-hardcore anymore. If a band is referred to as a 'hardcore band' 99% of the time the word hardcore is relating to the genre and not as an adjective. Hardcore therefore combines with metal to form metalcore, with ska to form skacore *shudder*, Nintendo to form Nintendocore (see: HORSE The Band) etc. It's very simple. I'm not sure why people get so upset at getting their heads round genres.
The Mars Volta are a prog band with a heavy post-hardcore influence (see: previous band), not to mention a ton of influences from latin-jazz and the like. Their latest album is pretty crap if you ask me.
Thank you... I used to be VERY narrow minded in the genres of music. If it wasnt metal then i didnt want to know ANYTHING about it. Now im much more realistic to music and the genre it fills. I simply wanted to findout some good hardcore (as in the genre) bands from the UK. To get an idea of what im looking for here are some bands i currently listen to in the hardcore genre - xDEATHSTARx, Bury Your Dead, Throwdown, and Terror.
Because it's confusing and inconsistent, plus people make them up when they want to pigeonhole something that doesn't require it.
so softcore is actually hardcore then? thats a good explanation thanks i didnt know what the whole genrecore thing was about but the reason i think its a bit arsey is because whats the point of saying yes im into metalcore and then the person youre talking to would be like 'uhhh whats metalcore'. then you have to explain how its just hardcore metal. why not just say im into hardcore metal. its only two more syllables for a person to pronounce, but it means we dont have to introduce this alien format of replacing part of a name with a part of an adjective (+core). its a lot more simple and normal too and across the globe millions of people wouldnt have to ask whats metalcore whats grungecore what emocore are the corrs latest album corrcore etc etc anyway, moving on ...
But you've just answered your own question right there. By saying 'hardcore metal' you end up appearing to use hardcore as an adjective. As if to say 'this metal is way hardcore dude'. Whereas the actual metalcore sub-genre is not metal played 'like totally hardcore dude', it is a mix of metal and punk-hardcore. Core is a handy suffix. Hardcore is an annoying adjective. Do you see what I mean? To answer your question 'WHY DO IT AT ALL???' ... well, the majority of people here answered the hardcore question by the thread starter how he wanted, because they knew what context he was referring to. And to be honest, in real life, I don't go round telling people 'oh hey I listen to metalcore and sludge-metal, you don't know what they are though haha etc' but I'm happy to use the terms in context with people that are entirely aware of them. It helps out a lot. It's obvious it's only going to make matters worse if someone hasn't got a clue what a metalcore band even sound like, let alone knowing the term even existed before... But then, if you're trying to tell someone computer illiterate about how you modified your Linux kernel you're going to do it a lot differently than when you speak to Mr. Torvalds or something.
Never again, my god they were awful, and they overran IIRC. No Comply were headlining so I was pretty annoyed that they were eating into their time... sorry, can't really add much to this thread as my knowledge of genres is fawful. It just kind of goes- metal, punk, ska, reggae and most of the things I like fit into or between them
