I'm on a tight budget at the moh and need a new printer.

    What printer is:
    a) not too expensive ?
b)Cheap cartridges or easy to refill?

I also need colour which put most laser printer out of my budget.

    Uk based.

it depends on your budget rearly if your going for under £100 i would get a kodak 3250 or a 5250 which is about £70 -£90 in most places ink cartridges are real cheap for it they are about £10 for black or your colour or £15 for the multipack which comes with black and colour. even if its more than that i would stay with a kodak just becuase they print well and have and overall are cheaper on inks.

The new Kodak printers look really attractive. Goof value and quality, plus the ink cartridges are low priced.
Have a look here Google Shopping Link

The Which magasine just reviewed some printers in their latest issue. Last week I bought their recommended WiFi Inkjet Photo Printer Canon PIXMA MP560. Picked it up on amazon for just under £115 delivered and I can't fault it so far.

Kodak were running advertisements in the newspaper this week that they are cheap printers, with cheap ink to boot. Never seen one though.

Alternatively, of the two main printer companies (HP/Epson) I'd go Epson. The SX215 is decently priced, scanner+printer.

    Check out Inkexpress.co.uk

I've used them loads and with the continuous ink system printing is sooooo cheap.

I've always found them good to talk to on the phone too.

I have a Canon Pixima ip2600 and have had no problems from it at all. Got it for £50 at Argos October last year. As for ink just shop around and look elswhere apart from offficial sources as the branded ink tends to be far more expensive.

No reason to spend more than £40 on an Epson Stylus SX215, it won't win awards for features but its got a flat bed scanner, individual ink cartridges, LCD Viewer and card slot and you don't find much of that at that price
