Reading this it does sound as if Google aren't really going to do anything about it but will happily take the revenues from the advertising. Wasn't adwords supposed to be a trusted Google recommendation?

Do you seriously expect Google to check every ad from AdWords ? They would need to hire a smaller country to do that. To check if company in country A doesn't break laws in country B with their ad, or something else ...

Isn't that the point of Google offices in each country? not only to collect the huge amounts of cash they are making on these adverts but to also protect the actual users of their search engine. People click on the adword results at the top because they feel Google has recommended them and they are trustworthy. Who would have thought that all they did was collect huge amounts of money and did nothing else!

    Oh dear!

Every company is going to make errors, there is no proof that Google was aware of these adverts or kept them up for any period of time after being notified about them.

    Fair enough I say.

And what makes you think they will be able to prosecute Google ? When did you seen a newspaper prosecuted for an ad ?

They pulled the advert once it had been investigated and found to contravene local laws. Not sure what else can be expected?

This is the other problem. Google give no such assurance and never will take responsibility for another corporation's activities, unless it's a subsidiary of their own organisation.

    Fact is :
    https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/adwords/select/TCUSbilling.html
In short, Google is not responsible for ads (same as in case of the newspaper vs ads on their pages), and everyone who wants to have ads through AdWords signed/accepted this agreement.

Or do you think Google is that stupid Snips, and they would not have covered this issue with their legal team ?

And Snips seriously, the google offices in every country ? AdWords is a multibillion dollar business - per quarter. That means many millions of ads, and no sane person can check all of them. It is similar to youtube - it is impossible to check all uploaded videos.

Criticism is one thing, this how ever is a tabloid story about people who for what ever reason have been fooled into giving money to a disreputable company.
Google are a bit player in the story however to shift papers or in this case draw eyeballs the name a large and well known corp is placed in the headline.

Your post history constantly criticising Google, even some times with merit, does nothing to bolster the authority of the post or the article.

The fact is - any newspaper or different ad network will have exactly the same or very similar rules and legal liability.

Even BBC itself has the following legal stuff around online ads on their website :
    http://www.bbcwwchannels.com/worldnews/advert_conditions/107/
But hey, they said Google, it is the big evil corporation we must hate - even if they have the same rules as everyone else in industry.
