So, Google have gone and bought sketchup the modders favourite visualisation tool. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/03/new-home-for-last-software.html It appears they are going to be using it for making more detailed 3d buldings for Google Earth. What are you opinions??
I can see that it would improve Google Earth even further, making it an even better and more interesting program to use. Oh, the endless fun of Googling around the world looking for different places...
I'd love it if they made it free, that would KICK ASS! And suddenly everyone in the modding community would have a legal version. Picasa was bought by google, now free. Same for the Google maps data/images: they were bought from somebody, now free. What I want to know is how Sketchup allows google to advertise... ch424
Don't get your hopes up. I don't think Sketchup will become freeware. It is selling quite nicely at $400,-- a pop --no point in making such a money spinner a freebie. Possibly the price may come down a bit to the point where increased sales and reduced profit margin hit an optimal returns value, but I suspect that's about it.
It's all nice how this all goes to contributing to better maps but it sucks that the Hong Kong map has no directions etc
