so has anyone had any success installing this on a desktop? if so, how did you go about it? ive tried loading the iso file from hexxeh's flow distro onto usb and loading that.. but everytime i try i always run into some problem or other. i just wanted to know if buying a stack of dvd's for it is worth it.
I have tried it on my netbook, using exactly the same distro, and it works fine. There's a little tweaking to get the wifi working, but that's because the drivers are released as a binary blob and not fully open source. As for a desktop, I haven't ever tried it. To be honest, I don't think it's worth it for a desktop. Certainly not worth buying a stack of blank DVDs to test it out on - just stick with the USB stick. Any problems you're encountering are likely to do with hardware compatibility. If I remember correctly, hexxeh is also working on a "vanilla" build - have you tried that out?
yeah ive got the vanilla build, yeah i think my hardware isnt compatable, i tried it on a hp laptop though and got a black boot screen with flashing white underscore :S. i just really wanted to know peoples opinions on it.
I've never tried Vanilla, only Flow, but from what I gather it has been built with netbooks in mind - so my Dell Mini 9 just boots it without a problem. As for using it, you really do need an internet connection all the time; even the "start" page needs internet access to display all the apps. For light web-browsing, it's fine - just don't expect to do much more with it. Although I keep coming back to Windows XP for my netbook; hardly anything has the same level of support for the built-in 3G modem.
