The new version seems to be working just fine on 10.04 64-bit:

    Google Earth
    5.1.3533.1731

I know there were massive problems with it conflicting with Flash Player. The amount of times I installed then removed it because it would not work. It loaded then just disappeared. I got fed up trying. Well I did another install today:-

    sudo apt-get install googleearth

and all is well. I use it in XP but for some reason Google Earth in Ubuntu runs more smooth. It seems to like the OpenGL of Linux much more as the scrolling roads and streets are much more smooth. The graphics in Windows are better at everything else but this. Go figure...
