Why do people really care about Google leaving stuff in beta?? Does it really make a difference that they announce a "final" product?
My point is that getting directions from a motorway junction onwards seems like a pretty common request - the kinda thing it should do before Alpha.
yer i have noticed this to.... would be nice if they added some other features and fixed the bugs it currently has..... and also update some of their sat pics...the one of my house is sooooo old.... before we even moved it...
hmm the reason for it doing that is you have said you were going onto the motorway and not asked it to start from J5 exit. when i do it on autoroute and say J5 north bound which is what google maps is done its gives the route you got. buty if it thinks you want J5 south bound the journey is miles
Bindi, I think hes reffering to the rather "direct route" its chosen, and was makeing a bit of a joke, (must be a liverpool thing)
Couldn't it just start the route from the first point after the junction? - i.e. the roundabout turn-off/exit
Actually, it's not. It's because it has 'M65 J5' as a single co-ord, and isn't clever enough. Despite the fact that I grew up in Oxfordshire.
But 9/10 times it's ok. Why would you need to google something that obvious anyway? My Tom Tom is worse in some respects and I paid good money for that. Nothing is perfect, it just applies a set of rules: "Motorways are fast, other roads are slow".
While there's no doubt that it's a fantastic piece of software, it does screw up sometimes. Directions to my nearest City Link depot:
LoL, hitman. It look like you have to chase your City Link depot down the road. I've heard of portable offices before...
It's because it assumes you mean AFTER the motorway junction, not before. Try from the junction before and I bet it gets it right.
It's not. It's because 'M56 J5' relates to a point on the motorway, not to the 'off-ramp' or, better, the roundabout.
