Amazing how all of a sudden Google decide to get indignint after cowtoeing to what China wanted in the first place. Bunch of hypocrits.

I also love the comment in the BBC news article by a representative of the Chinese saying "The internet is open in China".

Sure, and Christianity is rational thought.....

 

Why?

"The internet is open in China" is a definite lie, the internet in China is heavily censored by the state, where as "Christianity is rational thought" is only a lie in peoples opinion.

Sorry for the thread de-rail, but stuff like that pisses me off. (For the record I'm not a Christian, I just don't see why religion and science have to be mutually exclusive)

I support Google in their actions, as I think that China goes too far on their restrictions on freedom of speech. Although I realise that the world outside of China has little rights to command the Chinese government I think that international pressure should be put on the government until it gives the people the political freedom of speech rights that they deserve.

However.
Even if this isn't what's happening, it still worries me that Google has the power to make such a thing feasible.

 

Too late, China's gonna end up preggers and Google is gonna be stuck with 18 years of child support.

What's really interesting about this case is that on the same day that Google announced their threat of withdrawal from China, Baidu, China's leading search engine was taken down by (allegedly) Iranian hackers.

Any ways, I think it's for the best. Why any one thinks that trying put a dirty fat finger in to a commie pie would be a clever thing to do is beyond me. Let China tell their people that every one is a western Devil, if it works for them who are we to argue? I think it's about time us "western" countries stop trying to throw our substantial girth's around and do something about the rotten core of our own society. As for me? I'll keep on rotting in the free world.

 

Is it just me or is this a publicity stunt? Thinking about it now.... Even if Google only has 30% compared to Baidu larger majority. 30% is still alot for the whole of the PRC! Hmmm something doesn't add up.
