Ok I'm pretty impressed but my real problem is that aside from displaying media/games/everything on a more enjoyable display, what does it do that my phone doesn't do?
There's a mini review over at Anandtech I am still debating whether or not I want it- I'm impressed with it, just cannot decide what I would actually use it for...
It does what your phone does on a bigger screen That's about it. Of course depending on the hardware in your phone, it may well be much more powerful and be able to run more demanding apps/games etc Personally my Galaxy S2 does everything it needs to do, except what my main Windows PC does, so I'm totally not interested in tablets, only gaming ultrabooks and such
Bugger. Preordered the 16Gb one. I currently have a Touchpad, which this will replace. The Anandtech review was very positive indeed.
I'm still sort of waiting for a decent Internet only tablet - no apps or complex OS needed - with a decent screen, long battery life and excellent browser. Because that's all I really want or need a tablet for.
Then you will probably wait at that device until your death. Because no one will create a "dumbtablet". The money comes from the apps and content sold through Google Play/Appstore/Marketplace.
well i think the 8GB Nexus 7 might be your tablet. good browser, with choice of other browsers. should be good battery life. you'll still need the tablet to be able to process HTML5 and javascripts in a timely manner.
That's like asking what a 30" monitor allows you to do on your computer that a 15" screen doesn't. But nobody asks that question because it is pretty obvious that all that screen estate makes certain activities a lot easier and more enjoyable.
Yep, good analogy. I can only speak from personal experience, but you can't beat a tablet for around the house web browsing and casual media consumption.
If this were a monitor I plugged into my phone I could see your point, but it isn't. My point is that for me, the gap it wants to fill doesn't exist. I have no need for an item that does exactly what my phone does on a bigger screen.
That was my question before Captain Patronising Analogy turned up. I'm well aware it does everything my phone does on a better display, does it do anything my phone doesn't?
it runs more apps. eg the sword and sorcery game started off only playable on ipad. the larger screen really does make browsing more pleasent experience. just compare Flipboard on a phone and on a tablet.
No. Don't buy it - you don't want it At the risk of sounding like Deputy Patronising Analogy, it's a bit like switching from a £500 12" laptop to a £1200 17" laptop. You can't actually do anything different with it, it's just bigger, faster and nicer to use.
Apart from my phone is £331, and this tablet is £199(for the version that matches my phone for storage)....
Yeah but my phone can make phone calls and fit in my pocket. Clearly this is a lovely piece of kit at a nice price, I just wish I had a use for it!
