Now why didn't i do that for my final project :waah:
Anything that could improve search methods is good, and text excerpts from websites would definately help me to narrow down the page(s) i want more quickly

Woot, even better for cheating on pub quizzes! Now all we need is wikipedia to sort it's interace on mobiles and it'll be pub quiz heaven.

It's definetly one of those, 'why didn't i think of that', ideas. Well played Mr Allon.

Sounds kinda evil to me. I dislike online advertising and if it forces me into having more of it then its probably bad.

would that not be copy right infringment. currently websites let google cache their content because it brings them more viewers. if now what google plan on doing is taking their information and displaying it on a googleadd infested page so they make more money.

I wonder what these webmasters are gonna say about their lost revenue.

Well it's either that or you pay to use Google :eyebrow:
It does seem to be working a lil better than before- obviously the differences won't be that noticable to the common user because the search terms change practically every time, thus meaning they've got nothing in their memory to compare it to. The new features should however make fact finding a lot easier, and of course save time when trying to find the answer to a question that's on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

To give the answer to everything Google first would have to index EVERY page on the net. Would be hard to observe a couple of billion pages won't it? :eyebrow:
But I actually like the idea behind this for the same reason as already mentioned by FredsFriend.

They also need to copycat the ask jeeves idea of showing a mini window of each search result.

How is displaying excerpts from sites more than what they already do. I get the answer to a lot of questions by typing something into google and reading the two lines with my search term highlighted. If it is a better version of that then I'm all for it!

I don't know, but I suspect that it'll be something along the lines of changing the layout from:
Google results for your search "museum head passages" 1-20 of 1,206,305:

    Link to Johnny's Website Here
... vaguely relevant passages selected by looking for keywords ... ate a giant monkey's head in just under 30 seconds ... miniature sloths invading public museums such as the Louvre are worrying some ...
    More results like this
... to something a little more like:
Google found these answers to your query:
"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

Quite a lot, I should imagine. If we compare the beaver and the ...
    Link to Johnny's website here

How much wood would Jeremy Irons chuck if Jeremy Irons could chuck wood? More than a woodchuck! Here's a comparative chart for your amusement ...
    Link to Suzie's website here

This is just a guess, but something like this would take the emphasis off the actual creators and managers of the content, don't you think? The other thing about this setup is that if you DO have a problem with this approach, your only option (assuming that subverting the algorithm isn't on the table) is to cut your website off completely with anti-spider measures (robots.txt, etc).

    Nezuji :)
