Here's an interesting article which details Google's possible plans for a Wi-Fi service. As usual, it appears to be supported by contextual advertising, although of a different nature to what we're normally used to. It certainly ties in with Google's usual tactic of doing something which seems ridiculous (GMail anyone?) but making it work very well in the end. We'll have to wait and see.
It seems like a good idea to me. More power to them. My only fear is though that the day will come that they get declared a monopoly.
watch out world, google's coming..... again. It's a good point though why the started on it - huge savings for them which in time will make the initial costs look like peanuts
Humm...its all starting to make sence now. I read today that google is selling more shares to raise over $4bn to put into "projects". Most people are assuming that google is going to expand into mainland china although that should only cost approx $1bn. Another $1bn for india and the other asian areas and your still left with $2bn. Linkey
So, in other words, they will most likely try to penetrate a market already nearly saturated with a multitude of broadband/WiFi options (Cable, DSL, Fios, Free and paid WiFi and so on) while leaving the rest of us with limited, if any, choices. I'd be suprised as hell to find out they will try to enter any markets other than urban.
my only gripe with google is that Gmail dosnt allow email addresses with an underslash in them ( _ ) _(screw)____MiNiMaL___(you)____FuSS___(gmail)____
