hey all, i got an old portable DVD player in the hope to rip the screen out and use it in my case. I've taken it all apart and its not looking too great, basically everything is on separate boards, nearly all of them have PVS162-A1 printed on them, my searching yields nothing conclusive about specs or data or anything.

Basically, due to the layout and design, im going to have to keep all of the boards together, and not take any of them off, the brightness and colour controls are on two seperate boards the power board for the TFT is on a separate one, as is the controller for the TFT, then the input output board is on its own as is the main AC adapter board. DAMMIT!!

Theres one thing, it has an AV input, whihc i gather is a good thing to have, makes it easier to connect to a PC etc... the only thing is it's in the form of a 3.5mm jack, this AV cable should have 3 phono's on the end of it Red Yellow and White, i dont have this cable the auction was for the unit only, nothing else. Can i just get any old AV cable from somewhere that has a 3.5mm to 3 phono connections?

If you want pics just ask

A video RCA composite connector really only uses one wire, with the ground/sheilding being an optional line. So if you simply purchase a 3.5mm jack it will be fairly easy figure out which solder terminal you need to wire the video to.

That it would, thanks, but ive just realised that the RCA connector on my TV card is an input, so thats not going to work at all... the only outputs i have are VGA and S-Video (DVI is in use by my monitor) any suggestions...?

What about using an S-video to composite adapter, then desoldering the 3.5mm jack on the PCB, and soldering the composite end of the adapter to the PCB. You'd have to experiment to find which pin the video in signal uses.
IIRC the adapters are either a small inline box (which doesn't need power), or an integrated cable with Svid on one end and RCA on the other. Either way, you would have to cut up another cable to plug the adapter onto.

god damn, i work in maplins for christ sake and i didnt think of that.... crap im useless, cheers for that mate, im in work tomorrow so will check out prices */me praises staff discount*

This is all banking on the unit actually powering up and the LCD controller not being fried, ill be grabbing a 9v 2.5A supply from work as well to test it turns on, if it does then we're in business. if it doesn't, its back to ebay to find another one for cheap.

Thanks again, will post back when ive had a check to see if it works...
