I just got my mobo/cpu in, put it on some anti static bag, put in my radeon agp card, stuck in the ram, connected the power switch/power supply to the mobo, and tried to post. The screen doesn't even turn on, there are no error beeps, there is nothing. All the drives spool up, the fans are all going, and the light on the mobo/power led are both lit. I'm going to try a different video card if I can find one, but as the Radeon was working 10 minutes before I stuck it in the new board, I'm pretty sure it's still good (I'll check later when I put it back into the old machine). Any ideas (zap...save me please..asus tech support is closed until monday).
Well if the Chip isn't fried (Where did you buy it?) The very first thing the processor checks is the RAM. So re-seating the RAM would be the first thing. Actualy re-seating everything (taking it out and putting it back in) would be the best thing to do. Also reset bios. Are there any other cards installed? If so remove them. Even try without the harddrive/cdroms just to see if you get to the BIOS testing screen. If all that fails I recomend a replacement on the chip. If that still doesn't work, repair centers have what i called a POST Card this will tell you how far the BIOS is getting before it crashes. (It's 1:44am here, I am going to bed I will be back on tommorow)
I've seen at least one pc that would not work if the hard drive / cd rom was connected incorrectly eg cable the wrong way round. It wouldnt beep and nothing would come up on the screen. So the first thing I would do is disconnect any drives and try it. Good luck.
What PSU are you using monolith? I had an identical problem with my A7V266-E and a rather iffy Chieftec 340w PSU. I tried it with a Macron 300w, an Enermax 350w & 330w and a Sparkle 400w and it was fine after, but no matter what I did with regards to clearing the CMOS, checking for shorts, taking everything out, the board simply would not post with that PSU, and would as you describe just sit spinning the fans with all the lights on, but no beeps and no video signal. Try a different PSU just to eliminate that though a duff cpu (quite rare in my pexerience, only ever seen one totally DoA AMD cpu, most ones killed are down to user error, which is unlikely in your case cos you seem to know what you're doing!) will give you the same problems I think.
Are anti-static bags electrical insulators? I'm sure I read somewhere that they are slightly conductive? Maybe i'm just mad. EDIT- Thinking about it I think this is a really wrong idea, but i'll leave it here incase. EDIT2 - This were I read it http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20820&highlight=antistatic+bag
I tihnk everything is "slightly"c onductive, just a little wickle teeny weeny littler wmigen of a bit conductive! No doubt anti-static bags are the same, but they are insulated enough to provide very good protection for your equipment (as the charge it will let through will be smaller than the charge needed to kill TTL/CMOS Chips)
as its one of the newer asus boards the troubleshooting system on those is quite good, so it should tell you if the cpu/ram/gfx are/is dodgy so that should not be the problem especially if you had it working in your old rig... the easiest solution would be to first reset the bios to test(im sure youve dont that already though) then take out everything apart from the esential pieces to see if that helps then test all parts if possible in another machine... then test the psu, because as will said this does seem to sound like a psu problem... if it still doesnt work then i would go and think about rma'ing the parts...
Modern Technology Is Weird A while back when my m8 was upgrading his PC from Sdram to DDR Sdram we bought it all, set it up with extreme care, so as to not damage the components with static, we got a memory error, so we takes it back and gets us a new lot. When we get back, he drops the memory stick on the floor and treads on it by accident . Anyway, we were very annoyed to say the least, we tryed it anyway and hey presto! it works! Recently I bought my new mobo/cpu combo which consisted of the Chaintech Apogee 7VJL KT400 board and a AMD XP1900+ cpu, would it boot? NO! It had the same problems as yours, LEDs lighting, Fans spinning etc, so i get extremely pissed off and launch my new cpu across the floor , I then try it again a couple of days later, and hey presto! IT WORKS! I just don't get modern technology, it's weird!
Is it an AMD or Intel system ? I know this sounds pathetic but I had this problem once with an Intel system ... the same symptoms as you have and guess what the problem was ? The keyboard ! Try a different one, maybe it'll help. Hope you get the problem solved Cheers [DE]FreD_S
It's AMD. I tried everything you suggested a long time ago. I connected my line-out to my preamp/amplification system and still had no verbal post messages like the board is supposed to have. I've also got no beeps (tried two diff pc speakers). My PSU is a 480w truepower antec (trueblue) which I've tested with a diff board and it works great. Everything has been tested with the other board except the cpu/ram because I don't have another board that uses DDR or athlon xp's.
