Hi, I'm new here so Hello :)

I thought i'd ask you guys here, cos i've looked thru some of the stuff you's post and it's all so very good. I love electronic's, and i wanna learn more.
    Well anyways

I have a GPS system and i wanna mod it. I wanna use the Screen as a display unit. Im not sure what i can use it for ... So i'll ask you guys if you's know anything on it...

Specs for the whole system is

    CD UNIT

    Sony Model No. NVX-F10

    Modile Digital Map/Navi System

    DC:12v --- Negative Ground
    ____ ^^^
    ---- <<<

    Serial No. 41557

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    TV unit
    Model No. XVM-45
    Serial No. 41557

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Mobile Tv Tuner
    Model No. XT-220V
    Frequency Range 1ch~62ch
    DC:12V --- Negative Ground
    ___ ^^^^
    --- <<<<

    Serial No. 26338

If any one has schematics for it, or know where i can get some i'd love that. Cos i kinda broke the CD unit... and it dont do to much at the moment lol :dremel:

So i was woundering if i could some how mod the display, and use the cd unit, not as a cd unit but to mod that and use it to do other things...

If any one has any suggesting it would be great...

    Thanks for your time.

I can't see any pictures, are you sure you liked them properly and the site accepts off-site image loading?

I'm afraid I can't help much, but this did give me an excellent idea for a security product. Stick a small GPS receiver in the computer, and have the mobo check it on start-up. If the machine has been moved then assume it's stolen and wipe the HDs securely.

I didn't put any pictures up... I dont have any where to link pictures other wise i would...

I just wanna really use the tv screen cos it's colour... BUt it only hooks into the cd unit. And it has a tv tuner... I wanna use it as a tv or somthin to display stuff like i saw some mods with those cool lil display vids going thru them...

But i dont know much about electronic's to rip the cable open and mod it... Cos it has like 20 diff wires in it. I know it has power, the video signals, and remote to. Cos it has a remote built for it... Which would be cool to get working and mod it..

It can be done and i've spent like 50 hours lookin for the schematics :wallbash: and nothing. Stupid japan made sony gps hard to find stuff on it.

But i can take pictures of it and show ya's if you know where i can host em ? and see if you's know how to mod the boards...

Yeah, it's for the EXTEMELY paranoid :worried:

What would be even cooler is if it had a battery, so that it could self destruct automatically even without power being supplied.

Might just be easier to hardware encrypt the HD though :)

Umm...why do you want to rip the screen off a colour GPS system likely worth a couple of thousand dollars?

Sell the whole system in the Trading Post for $1000+ and then go to Jaycar/Dick Smith or Auto-one (or other auto/car stereo place) and buy a colour LCD screen for 400-500 bucks? Pocket a cool $500 +

    :)

Unless of course the GPS was obtained from someone elses vehicle in a less than legal fashion ... :eyebrow:

Just a thought - GPS only works outdoors or with an aerial mounted outside with a clear wide angle view of the sky. Some of the better units work through foliage/tree canopy but no GPS works inside. So if you picked up your comp and stated it up someplace else it wouldn't know it had been moved as it wouldn't be able to get a fix on any satellites.

cos it's a jap made stupid GPS

    WIth a JPA gps cd

    And no GPS sat links

Cd alone for aus is 60 bucks for the map, 250 for the GPS related sat system guide

and the links i think are 60

so it's not worth spending that money to buy that then find out no one wants it..

Also i broke a cable on it, tho it could easy'ly be fixed with about 10mins effort of soldering two wiers into the cable and fixing it into the two slots...

and i doubt any one would wanna buy it anyway... Unless some one here wants it? or swap me for a Video screen that i can hook into my car... :)
