    Hi,
As the thread title state, my 5 year old Asus 8800 GTS 320 MB card has died (or at least is in its deathbed) right now, just before I need to head back to University. I need a replacement card that will do me fairly well for gaming aswell, with my current game (most intensive) be MW2, although I still play older titles like BF2, and WoW a bit. Don't care about running any game on high with AA, just medium settings will suit me. Rest of my system is

    Intel E6600 @ 2.4Ghz
    2GB (not sure of speed)
    PSU : 430W
    Asus Commando mobo
    Acer 21"(or 22", not sure) @1680x1050
    Win XP Home

Not the biggest tech dude so if you need more info on my system please ask. I'd prefer an Nvidia recommendation, and also quick availability is a bit plus as well. After some looking I came up with the BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC, however it is currently out of stock save for buying it online around me. The other card I've noticed is PNY XLR8 Performance Edition GeForce 9800 GT EE, again not sure.

Kinda asking a lot but I have lost touch with hardware updates since I started my schooling, so I am completely back to being a noob with this stuff. Also, Canadian Resident.

What's your budget? A GTX 260 is fairly well priced these days.

Ah yes, sry forgot about the issue of money. I'm looking for something from the $100-$150 range (I think lol). I have an old system so I don't really wanna got above and beyond since it will most likely bottle neck my system.

Also, SLi is kinda in my plan. I wanna build a new rig when I graduate, so getting one card now and then when I make my new rig maybe get a second and run sli. Who knows what my situation will be when that time comes so its not a must.

HD4850/GTX250/GTX9800+ are about the same as what you had before.
GTX240/9600GT are around the same. I donno about the EE version tho. If its some energy efficient edition I would avoid.

Both those cars would be good for your res. Lowest I would go would be the HD4670. Around the same as the 9600 maybe slightly slower and cheaper but should still handle your res with some AA in older titles and around Max settings on newer titles.

Personally I would look up results between the HD4670 and 9600 but check the specs. Nvidia have lots of similar cards with different specs ie 9600gt, gts, gt EE all differ with type of memory, speed of memory, stream processors etc.

I would avoid SLI/xFire tbh, tho if you really want to +1 GTX260. Great price atm and great SLI performance.

Not really, a 4850 is much faster than the old 8800GTS 320mb (G80) i should know i had one.

Personally with your budget i would hit ebay and find a 4870, people will be selling them off to upgrade to now is your time to BUY!!!

Sli is for those with e-peen, it dose very little in terms of performance increase.

as above, I'd go 4870 or 4890, If you really REALLY have to go NVidia I'd go 9800GTX, it's within your budget and it's still a damn good card (GTS250)

Newegg has a Sapphire 5770 listed for $155. If you were prepared to go the extra $5 that might be a worthwhile option.

Well I've been looking and I've yet to see a 4870 or a 4890 in my price range, although it is probably where and how im looking, Tiger and Newegg. I don't wanna do this purchase on Ebay, paypal is empty.

Well im not a huge fan of either company, I got my 8800 back when Ati was having driver problems. I'm sure they have figured it all out, just that my one Ati experience never went that smooth.

Well typing I did come across
    http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=46443&vpn=HD487AYWFC&manufacture=XFX
but it calls for a 450W and All I have is 430W.

And to tonpal, Canadian, so its $21 for me.

I would go with this unless you can find a HD4890 for $160.

It's worth those extra $5. Especially the HD5770 as it performs like the HD4870, you'll get about a 20% increase for the price.

And no the 9800 series aren't worth the $140 when for $10 more you can have a HD5770.

Not to mention there are $110 9800GTX+es/GTS 250s.

TBH I'd avoid 4870's, they heat up like no tomorrow. Might not be a huge problem for some, but for me it's a huge turn off as I like silence. Even on idle the HD4870 in one of these rigs sucks crazy power and runs so hot I could warm my pizzas on it.

On the other hand I'm somewhat in love with 5750/5770 ATM. They also scale great in CFX, so just add second one later if you need the performance.

I don't really know about the prices of those cards over there in the US, but seeing as nothing costs anything there, I bet you could grab something nice for that money :I

Again, I ask that you look at the Canadian Newegg, as that 155 deal is in American, and the same thing is $171 (with a $5 rebate) on Newegg.ca. I've been reading a little into the GT240s 4670 (mentioned by javaman) which also are falling into my budget.

My biggest problem/worry is my PSU, which is not that large. I'm running two SATA drives so I'm looking for a low power card (not necessarily a EE though)

This card in specific is grabbing my attention atm, look for some reviews but none found of it yet.

    D-D-D-D-Double Post (Sry)

Well after looking some more the 4770 has started to scream at me. Bit more then the original 9600GT. That said for $11 I could get a 4850 although I'm unsure if my PSU could handle it.

Some more input is needed before I break out my wallet.

    Go with the HD5770 then!

Your PSU will handle it as long as it has a PCI-E connector and such.

Ya but that 5770 is $171, which is kinda steep for what I'm looking to spend. I know I shouldn't go cheap on this sorta thing but im not money bags either. What about something like a 5750, which is still not awesome, but its in my budget.

can't get one on newegg.ca, and the only one on tiger is more outside my budget then the 5770.

I know this may sound stupid, but do intel processors and ati cards get along well? I've always seen intel/nvidia and amd/ati combos.
