We all would like the convience of free 24/7 laser cutting of out cases for mods, windows, fans, ect. How hard would it be to get a laser? I mean just a laser powerful enough to cut through steel and aluminum. If we could do that for a ok price then the numatic computer controller that moves it would be a breeze.

    Bad Ideal eh?

just pick yerself up a laser pointer hook it up to a high voltage source such as a tv fly back and watch it cut! I think the prices for such equipment ranges in the millions....Some places have them. An alternative might be renting some time on one. A computer controlled water submerged arc welder should work equally well...

Your talking multi-thousands for newish second hand equipment m8. The cheaper end of things is about £15,000 and ranging to £40,000. Rember thats second hand.

Then you need the expertise in order to operate one- sure you can read the manual but its more of an acquired skill to things like this tbh

    yeah, it costs a LOT.

and i wouldn't just like to have one for computer modding. i'd rather have one to make R/C plane lazer cut kits! that way you can charge a lot extra because people want the lazer-cut quality over die-cut! then the money would flow, and i could get more computer mods! (plus people would pay me to use it)

Actually I used to work for a company that sold signmaking equipment. We sold a laser that would cut acrylic and wood, but not metals. These were like $20,000 or something, maybe slightly less. It was pretty cool though, had a 18"x24" table, you sent corel draw (or I would assume other vector graphics) files to it, it was very cool. I got a pen engraved as well as my mag-light :) I have the coolest flashlight (torch) around :) It's the anodized red aluminum full size one, with my name and a design engraved in it, it looks cool cos the aluminum oxidizes white, looks cool :)

anyway, yeah, lasers cool, but expensive.

uh.... no. that would never work in a million years. that wouldn't even get it CLOSE to the strength of a laser pointer!
