Well its pretty simple, im looking for A laptop to use programs like photoshop,bryce,3dmax,dreamweaver,etc. It needs to run pretty fast and needs to be able to multitask so it almost definitley needs an intel processor. I really am on a tight budget so im trying to keep it around $500. I found one at tigerdirect and i need some opinions on it. Thanks, Shawn

I dont know much about laptops but i do know that 500$ is not even enough to build a regular computer that can handle those programs. THings like photoshop need mass RAM and a good processor. The one you linked has well neither. To be honest save up more money go for a laptop with atleast 1gb of ram but push for 2gb and wait for core 2 duo lappys for that extra boost in performance. I would say you would atleast need 1200$ or so.

That should be able to run those programs at a reasonable speed but dont expect the same performance if u had a core duo, i have run photo shop cs on a hp vectra p3 500mhz with 32mb of integrated gfx, lol and it ram at a resonable speed, and 3dsmax 7 on a dell 4600 with 512mb ram and a p4 2.6ghz, but i think your biggest drawback will be the gfx you could get a much better system from spending a bit more, also a ram upgrade would help. as for whoever replied to you first, you could easily build a pro media editing machine for under 500$, i am sorry i cant help you out but i dont know that much about laptops

I'd say save some more money and get a dell. You can pick up a core duo 2ghz with 1GB DDR2, 17" WUXGA LCD, and a 7900 GS for $1300 or so if you use a $750 of 1999 coupon along with some other little ones stacked on top (like $35 off etc.)

From reading his post though he wants a laptop that can run the applications well. Of course you could build a computer to handle it but how well was what i was pointing out. I mean i payed 600$ for my current computer back in the day of a amd xp2500 512mb ram and a 9600xt. That computer couldnt really deal with things like moviemaker 2 when it just came out. So with prices going up and up on parts he couldnt really do much with 500$ on a normal comp let alone a laptop. I mean when i built this comp i payed 80$ for ram that was considered the amount you need now days you need atleast 1gb and that alone costs like 120$.
