Hello again. Last time I posted in here, I was annoyed and puzzled about graphical issues with my new PC. A quick rundown of the problematic hardware...: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 motherboard 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 memory AMD Phenom x4 945 3.0GHz CPU Palit 768MB Nvidia GTX 460 graphics card The graphics card was RMA'd and had no fault. The rest of the PC was tested and was found to have no fault. I've since bought a more powerful PSU, as power was a possible cause of the checkerboard patterns being shown, that being a Point (generic?) 850W thing, but the problem still existed. So, I went with my original gut instinct, and RMA'd the Palit card to Scan. After a fortnight... no real idea why it took so long for the refund to come through (Barclays bank takes 5 working days for things to clear, that much I do know), I've bought an XFX Radeon HD 5770 XXX card... and the problem has been resolved. Why the Nvidia card wouldn't work, nobody knew. Only a salesman at Scan hinted at a possible conflict between the core of the system being AMD and the graphics card being Nvidia. In all my years of working with PCs, I've never heard of a graphics card not wanting to work in a system, regardless of all the hardware being faultless. The reason behind this post? Mainly, a "Thanks for the help that was offered", but also a warning or guideline to anyone else who might encounter a baffling problem like this. Dunno if this is the right place for this post, and I expect the admins to move it if it isn't the right place.
