Hi, I've got a GFX550Ti in my computer at the moment and after a couple of years, I've found a game that I can't put onto the highest settings without noticing a drop in performance (Grid 2 - a bit choppy on Ultra settings). Anywho, I'm planning on ordering a new card at the start of January (as I'm running out of time to have things delivered to the office beforehand). I've been out the loop for a while now, so I'm not sure what's good for the budget and what I should walk away from. At a push I could probably go to £170, but would like to keep the cost as close to £150 as possible. Rest of the important bits are as follows: - Intel Core i3 2100 CPU - Asus P8H67-M LE Motherboard - 8GB memory At the moment, the processor / RAM doesn't seem to be taking a hammering just yet, so I'm planning on leaving the rest of the system for the time being. At the moment, my screen is running at 1440x900, although that might get updated next year, if I move from my 19" setup to a 23" setup. So, I put this to you, the good people of bit-tech - what sort of card should I be looking at from here?
they way things are headed I would suggest waiting until you can afford a card with at least 3GB VRAM. Texture packs are getting bigger. As you can see from my sig, personally I save up until I can afford the top tier GPU and then keep with it for a good few years. though at 1440p I would need at least 4gb to keep everything on ultra
Honestly? If you're not averse to buying second hand you could score a 670 or even a 7970 for that money right here on the forums. EVGA in particular make great second hand cards as the warranty is tied to the card not he owner. No better bang for buck, especially at 1080p.
Thanks all. It'll be a few weeks before I order, but based on the above, I'll either go for the 7870LE, or I'll get something off the classifieds, depending what comes up (and how skint chrimbo leaves me!)
