    Hi,

as it seems my graphics card and my RAM are close to the end of their life and I really don't want to be stuck with my Pentium-M 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM notebook.
I want to keep my E6600 [great overclocker, 3.6GHz on air, 100% stable].

    What I want to replace:

    • ASUS P5B-E
    • 2 GB OCZ PC6400 @ 4-5-5-15-2T
    • XFX 8800GTS 640MB
What I want from the new parts:

Better performance, relatively low price. I'd prefer to go the nVidia way but I'm open to AMD graphic cards as well.
I play games on a 22" Samsung screen so the new graphics card should be able to power 1680x1050.

    Budget will be around £300.

    Thanks for any advice. :thumb:

8800GTS is a bit old. I'd get a Radeon 4830 or 4850 instead (if it fits your budget).

Sorry, if that wasn't clear from the first post:

    The listed stuff needs replacement!

    I don't want a new 8800. :)

    Gigabyte EP45-UD3L ~£100 - ebuyer
    4GB OCZ or Corsair DDR2-800 ~£35 - ebuyer
    XFX gtx 260 XT ~£160 - scan

comes to just under £300, the ram is on special at ebuyer at the moment though so you might want to be quick!

also scan has the gtx 260 xt for a fiver less on today only too!

    Thanks tank!

Looks very good. Can't order today though :( , waiting for money to come from Germany. Long live internet banking... it still takes a whole week to transfer money from Germany to the UK. :eyebrow:

I can udnerstand the GPU, but why the mobo and RAM? Surely the RAM is still good? Even if the mobo is aging badly, RAM hardly goes "bad"? Or have we killed it by clocking?

If you're a die-hard NVidia fanboy, I'd go GTX260... but save yourself some money and go Ebuyer for it

as far as mid-high range performance goes, I'd go 4870, as mentioned before

Well, every 3rd bluescreen tells me what got messed up is MEMORY_MANAGEMENT so I have to assume I somehow fried that. I think the system got damaged when transported from Germany to the UK.

Thanks for all the infos so far. :thumb: rep++
