Please could you guys suggest a good graphics card for me to put in my system. I don't play many games, I would rather get a card with some nice features. It should cost £100-£200, but could spend more/less if you got any good suggestions?
hey adam, i dont play much games, but i may start if i can get some decent games =] i got a Gainward GeForce4 Powerpack Pro 650XP Golden Sample. I know its more of a gamers card, but its real nice for non gaming too, with its TVOUT compatibilities ect, and the room for gaming is always there. I know you dont play games, but it dosnt mean you should settle for some lame card with **** 3D compatibility. The matrox seems good for what you need, but it would be better for the support to be there. its hard to explain but some of you may understand what im saying, heh guys ? .icecube
George, the reason the matrox is being recommended is because of its excellent 2D capabilities, with dual head support, a superb picture (according to reviews), and many other features I probably don't know about. According to the Matrox site, the new card has triple head capability which would be really really nice for me, any ideas when its coming out?
If you plan to play some games in the furture or consider it as a possibility I think you should get yourself at least a geforce 2ti or geforce 4 mx440. These cards are not very expensive and might fit in to your budget.
this guys right, its best to have the support for playing games. while it has good 2D support. adam, your not exsactly going to use a 2D card to its full capabilities, infact no where near it because you dont do video editing or anything, you just use it as a pc for browsing the internet. i know you. lol. so its best to get the best of both. .icecube
If I get the job I have applied for, I will probably build a second PC for games (if I ever play them), but I like the matrox because of the image quality and the dual head which is the main thing I am looking for in a card.
Have you already gotten the motherboard? If not, why not consider onboard graphics? I don't play games as well... I just aquired a Gigabyte 7VKML, with onboard everything (except modem). It comes with an AGP slot, so if I want to, I can plug in a AGP card of my choice.
As a user of a top-flight Sony 21" monitor, I can assure you that there are many reasons to go with the Matrox. I have the 21" monitor connected to both a GF3 Ti200 and a GF2MX. The difference in image quality is stark, with the GF3 way ahead of the GF2, but there's still ghosting and irritating stuff like that. Matrox cards do not suffer that, and I'm considering building a new machine as a hardcore 2D workstation, and it will either have a Matrox G550 or a pair of Matrox G450s (since I may get a mobo without an AGP slot). As for my 3d system, It presently has a GF3ti200, Diamond FireGL1000Pro and Appian Jeronimo Pro cards installed (quad-head with resolutions way in advance of what parhelia can manage), but I intend to get another 21" monitor and just have 2 monitors (as opposed to the three I have presently), so I'll probably put a parhelia into the 3d system. Who cares if it's not as fast as 3dlabs P10 or Ati R300 or Geforce 5? Graphics cards are way ahead of what we actually need, and there's nothing that would struggle on my GF3Ti200.
