I have a Ati 4850 at the moment and am looking to upgrade it however my budget is limited to around £100. What if anything would be worth considering or should I just stick with what I've got? Paired with a Q6600 processor and a basic Gigiabyte motherboard.

Main graphic intensive use is gaming I'm guessing?
To tell you the truth, there's some terrific cards if you can stretch your budget a little more, I'd advise saving up another £50-£100 and get a 560ti. The 5850 would be cheaper but less of an improvement, the gtx 460 is a good card which you should be able to nab a good deal on second hand if you don't want to stretch you budget too much...
Just make sure your PSU has enough power and the connectors for relevant graphics cards.
    Hope this helps :)

Just went from a 4850 to 6850. Was sceptical about how much of a boost I'd see in BF3 but I'm glad I did - I got mine from Scan for £99 but I've seen overclockers doing one for a similar price

I've been looking at the Powercolor hd 6870 which is £126.99 at the moment. Seems cheap for a 6870 though? Is it worth going for a better quality 6850 instead?

The powercolour is on sale at ebuyer right? I was looking at it also on ebuyer cause I'm in the exact same boat as you, same cpu aswell and probably gonna go for the 6870 as it seems to be the best card for the price

Yes thats the one. I might be getting a new monitor for Xmas and would like a 24" monitor. Would the 6870 be ok with this or should I get a 22"?

We need to know the resolution of the monitor, not it's size to help you with that one.

All 24" monitors are either 1080p or 1920x1200, and there's very little if any difference between the two in terms of how much they tax the GPU.

@ OP £127 for a 6870 is pretty good going IMO - doesn't matter what vendor makes the card as they are all essentially the same... there aren't really "bad" ones as such.

Mainly gaming to be honest, BFBC2, Skyrim, Fallout 3. Do some image manipulation with Adobe Photoshop. As for a monitor I've been looking at Benq G2420HD Full HD TFT LCD 24" HDMI resolutions 1920x1080.

I upgraded from a 4850 to a 6950. That is paired with a Q6600, best upgrade i've had tbh. Slightly out of your price range but it's deffo worth saving up extra for
