Looking for a new (PCI Express) graphics card for my HTPC, trying to cut down the clutter of wires in my AV rack so need Audio over HDMI... any recommendations you guys?
Grab any ATi card from the 2000 series and up. They have dedicated HDMI audio. Which card you want/need depends on how much graphics power you want/need. Considering it's for a HTPC this or this might be interesting. It's a bit more convoluted with nVidia cards as you have to connect a cable from your motherboard's (or sound card's) SPDIF header to the SPDIF header on the graphics card.
Well, then you'll be fine with one of those passively cooled HD4650 cards. Alternatively you might want to look at either this, this or this, if you want an nVidia-based card.
just to confirm my 3450 served me well for ages until i felt the need to upgrade. any passively cooled recent card would be ideal
rather interesting! i think i will let me old man know he games and has it hocked up to his lcd but wants the sound to go thro the lcd an all!!! nice one guys!!!
