I've recently been getting a graphics error when running games. The games start out fine but after about 5-10 minutes they freeze for about 10 seconds and then my graphics look like this. The game is still playable, though very annoying. I have to restart my machine to fix the problem. The problem occurs in Counter Strike: Source, Sims 2, and Delta Force BHD, but it may happen in other games too. No error message pops up.

    Specs:
    Athlon XP @ 2.1 Ghz
    Geforce FX 5600 256MB
    1200 MB DDR 2100
    XP Pro w/ SP2

Either an overheating Core or bad memory. Check that the Heatsink is making good contact with the Core and that the fan is spinning ;)

yup, fan's not spinning. That would be a problem... am I likely to cause any damage to my card if I continue to use my machine for non-graphically intense purposes?

You might damage it, yes. Unless you underclock it enormously, that's what I do with my old amd k6-2 CPU when I don't want the 40mm fan whining away. Not really comparable but you get the idea. Get a new fan and you'll be set ;)
