Graphics Graphics... freebies

Just a quick post for a good old rant.

Where have all the games gone?? I remember a few years back the majority of GPU's had some old game with them, i remember getting spellforce 2 or something with an ol 7600gs.

Now i'm looking to get a new GPU unless u do the Nvidia promo hardly any manufactures offer freebies at all.

 

Times are hard and margins are leaner.

I got a copy of Farcry 2 with my GTX285. It's only been this current gen of cards that have been tight.

 

had a free copy of Aliens vs Predator with 5870.

and all gtx460's are selling with HAWX2 valchor, which translates to £10 off for most people.

 

Also Mafia II voucher with the GTX470/GTX480.

 

To be honest i have never enjoyed any of the games i have gotten free with a graphics card, I would rather have a better cooler than a game anyway.

 

It seems like ATi has been more generous in the last generation as far as games go.

 

I got Batman AA with my GTX275 and when I bought my GTX480's I got two £75 voucher's for bottles of wine??

I'm hopeing the gtx 570 / 560 or the 69** range will come with some freebies as i need to upgrade my card

This, I think getting it free allowed me to appreciate the game rather than bash why it was a waste of money.

 

wow, two £75 wine vouchers. i'd take that over game.

AvP with 5870 was the only thing i've gotten lately. 8800GTX -> nothing. gtx260 -> nothing. gtx580 -> still nothing

 

I was supposed to get a game with my 3850 ages ago, this was when I didn't know any better not to shop with overclockers. I didn't and I was a little bit miffed, so I contacted overclockers about it as it clearly showed on the box a game, and said in the product description.

Get this, are you ready, Overclockers, yes Overclockers.co.uk sent me Crysis, Call of Juarez, GRAW2 and something else I forget. Would you believe I received pretty decent customer service from them. Shame the card turned out to be a slightly different model to the one advertised (very slightly cheaper, but that's not the point) and they refused to admit it was.

With my 8800GT I got Neverwinter nights 2.

With my 5770 I got the original Assassins Creed....yeah I don't know why either.

No idea if my 5850 came with a game as I got it off 23RO_UK.

Much older cards I vaguely remember getting something but couldn't tell you what.

 

my 4870 camewith a tomb raider game, i forget which one it was,lost the disc ages ago

 

I got Neverwinter Nights 2 with my HD3870. Not had a free game bundled with a GPU since then, though granted I've only bought one.

 

getting a new card soon, hope one the marketers read this thread and think, hmmmm free game good idea. then bam my card comes with a free game.

I think the debate goes:

'Free game or cheaper card?'

'I'll take the cheaper card as the game looks rubbish'

I'd much rather pay less for a card than get a bundled game personally, as I got Dirt2 and Stalker:CoP. I have no interest in Dirt2, so I'd have perfered the card to be £20 cheaper and bough a game of my choosing...

 

Last free game I got was spellforce 2 with my 9800 Pro, I remember it constantly crashed so I got rid of it when i got rid of the card lol.

 

yea its abit annoying that they cant even throw in some demos with games, looking to get a new card soon and its bit of a bum that u pay soo much for the card n no goodies
