After completing GRAW2's single player campaign after only a couple of days of fairly light play, I'd advise anyone considering getting it for the single player campaign not to bother. I'm not against games that are balanced just in favour of the player - I like to be able to finish a game and see everything it has to offer. But this was both ridiculously easy, and insultingly short. It was very poor in comparison with the great campaign in GRAW1. It lacked any sort of motivation for the player, I never felt terribly compelled to push on to the next firefight, nor did I have any sort of interest in preserving my team mates or the additional resources like the battle tank or gunship support units. Remember that superb sequence in GRAW one when you were pinned (I think) in the entrance to the presidents offices with enemy troops surrounding you in all directions, with the music swelling up as the climax of the firefight approached and the ammo began to run low? GRAW2 has nothing that comes close. Considering how awesome the action and pacing of GRAW1 was, and then the stellar action of Rainbow 6 Vegas; this seems like a game made for the Tom Clancy wannabes. Oh and the voice acting is appalling. Why bother trying to convince with a sense of authentic military atmosphere, when you have sub-PS2 non-PC talking heads dishing out mission advice? Not only are the animations and total lack of expression jarring, but the fact they're voiced by possibly the most generic sounding butch men I've heard in a game in a while. The crap speeches made by the crap US President character are just plain laughable. Did I mention bugs? I've not played a more bugged 360 title. Amongst other things, I had frequent incidents of my men running about with invisible weapons; invisible helicopters with me inside; thick 'smoke' for no apparent reason filling entire maps making aiming a joke and seeming more like a poor draw distance mask; healed comrades striking a Jesus Christ pose mid-firefight for no apparent reason; looped voices; warping enemy vehicles; being unable to heal someone if too close to a tank; support vehicles being unable to pathfind around my team; team mates refusing commands whilst standing in open ground; and illogical AI. Oh and the graphics were very average. Even after Gears of War in Novemeber, this still looks very basic. I forever had the impression of a multiformat title embelished with lighting effects and particle effects. The Mexican city maps looked crap tbh with their flat and boxy buildings that would look OK on the last Xbox. I certainly don't remember the first title looking this mediocre. There are moments of satisfyingly nice eyecandy, but ironically these are night missions when the game is largely masked by darkness and attractive moonlight. Do I sound like I'm ranting? Good because I am. Considering the pretty hight review scores for this, I can only assume that either the multiplayer aspect of the game will redeem it for me (I've not tried it yet) or that those publications who dished out 9/10's are liars. Avoid.
i heard this was for online really. sounds naff from what you have said. glad i didnt buy it. still got to get GRAW
Rainbow Six Vegas > GRAW > GRAW2 I'm yet to try the online aspect, which may rock. But I really only got it for single as GoW takes up my time online at the moment.
I hope to god they don't do a PC conversion. GRAW on the PC was, honestly, the WORST PC game I've ever played. Even worse than Warhammer 40k: Firewarrior.
Haven't played GRAW 2 here so I don't have a say but I played GRAW 1 although on the PC and I have to say it was rather boring, and this was on multiplayer aswell.
I've only just REALLY got into GRAW, but yet I still think it pales in comparison to R6:Vegas. But then, I did think all the graphical touches and cross-com improvements in the GRAW2 demo were pretty sweet. Does not make a good game though, I imagine.
Okay newsflash. Just tried this online, and left the match after about 10mins. I shall be trading this in fairly soon I think. Graphics look nice, plenty of customisation options, tons of weapons, and the map I tried looked very nice. Plays like a dog. For no apparent reason, your soldier feels completely different to move and shoot with. Rather than the nice weighty feel of the single player campaign, the multiplayer soldier moves like a crisp packet in the wind. I've not felt such a twitchy, unpleasant game character in an online shooter in ages. Aiming as a result felt incredibly light and inaccurate with the overall feel of a third person shooter from the early days of the PS1 or something. A horrible, cheap contrast to the sureness and density of something like GoW. Everything about GRAW1 is superior to GRAW2 imho.
