Wait... Are you really changing the SMD leds on the back of the mobo yourself?! wow you got some balls!

The tubing looks the part :thumb: But I'm not sure if I like the grey fluid. It fits the build and it's original, but imo it's just not a nice color to look at. Still a fantastic build and I still love the waterfall :)

Yeah I changed them myself, they are white now and it still works! :thumb: Come to find out in BIOS I was able to turn them off and would of never had to worry about changing it in the first place lol! Oh well!

I wish the grey fluid was darker but that's about it, I am pretty satisfied with it. It fits the build exactly as I needed it to and looks cool in the water fall:D I understand your point tho it isnt anything cool to watch like the UV green in the MZ-1 mod zoo build or L3P desk. But my only other option to fit the scheme was white pastel and in a build named "Grey Matter" lol I need to go with grey.

Thanks for the kind words and congrats on the MOTY nomination! I voted for ya!

lol isn't it always like that, change it, only to find out it can be turned off. But still kudos for you for changing them :)

And yeah white would indeed have been the only other option. Maybe some dark (purple?) dye to get the grey a bit darker?

Thanks for your vote! Much appreciated :)

haha yeah thats always how it goes!

I am not sure what would make it darker, Id have to email mayhems. Its weird because you use green and red to make grey instead of traditional white and black. so I have no clue lol oh well it works how it is I suppose.

and no problem man your build was sweet!

    Finished

Hey everyone! Happy to say Grey Matter has come to a finish!! I am extremely happy with how it turned out and I am glad all my ideas were accomplished and came to life in this build. I am going to be starting a new build here very shortly, so keep an eye out for it if you enjoyed following my work. This is just the very beginning of my modding career! Now before I get ahead of myself here are the photos for my last update. I will also be getting a final professional photo set taken very soon and will update those as soon as I get that done.

    On with the update!

First Thing I was waiting on were white LEDs to replace the red LEDs on the rear of the motherboard. I swapped them out only to find out they can be turned off and never need to change them lol:wallbash:

Next task was opening up my GPU IO area a bit, it was too small to fit 2 DVI connectors. Nothing a scroll saw and a hand-file couldn't fix.

Next finishing up some loose ends regarding some LED harnesses, some PSU wires to be sleeved, and the vandal switches needed to be wired up.

After that I was able to start routing wires and getting everything in place and connected, then I bent and connected the final tubes for the GPU and pump.

Then it was time to get the coolant together and fill that loop!!! My second favorite part of the build next to wiring it up!:thumb: I used Mayhems ice white pastel, and in order to make the grey coolant I had to mix green and red with a 10:1 ratio. To get it dark as it is I probably went about 150 drops of green to 15 drops of red.

Now that its filled and ready here is a few shots of the build! I hope you like it as much as I do! It was so much fun to make! Id like to give a shout out and special thanks to Bill over at MNPCtech.com! I am going to get a final photo shoot done probably in the next week and I will put them up when that is done!

Cooler Master HAF 912 : Grey Matter

Fantastic build. It has a very elegant feel to it and the grey pastel is the icing on the cake for me.

Thanks Bill! I have the photos on my PC now and I am about to edit them and I will be posting them later today! 1/11/14 :thumb:

Thanks Meelobee! Today is the day! In a couple hours they will go up, and lemme say they look awesome!

Thanks Tek! I agree with you, I like the grey pastel, I have had a few people say they weren't into it, but I don't think there was any other way to go for this build.

You have turned a haf into a work of art. That itself is worthy of a lot of praise.

I can't help but fell.... Doubtfull about the grey coolant. It kinda looks like paint now and it doesn't give your amazing pipework the credit it deserves imo. Don't ask me what it should be instead. Perhaps completely clear I don't know.

Your tubing man. I love it.

    Big respect for this project.

    Grey Matter Final Photos!

Well everyone, after four months my project Grey Matter comes to final close here! I would really like to thank everyone for tuning in and following my build! Also a special shout out to Bill at MNPCtech! It means a lot to me having everyone stop by and leave comments and I invite you all to follow my next project!:dremel: I will be starting the work log next week!

With this Grey Matter build I tried to do a few things out of the ordinary, I see a trend in color schemes and I wanted to try something different with the white and grey combination, I think it paid off. I also wanted to show off the awesome water blocks we buy for our graphics cards but never see them because the way they are mounted, so I changed my GPU orientation to the vertical position! I also saw people on Youtube making reservoirs by hand and wanted to give that a shot. In turn, I came up with this waterfall style bay area mounted reservoir that also houses a slim style blu-ray burner. I also wanted to make sure you could see the water pump so I made a little chamber with a window to see it.

Enough babbling! Here are the final photos of the project!

Thanks man! I think the final photos helped do it this build some justice!:thumb:

Yeah I have a new build starting this week I will be posting a log a week from today. I won a Fractal Design Define R4 case on the Mod Zoo forums, so I am going to mod that. I got some cool ideas planned. I also have another build planned after that. Going to be busy over here! Also picking up a CNC soon, excited for that!
