The whatwhat what now? I don't really do presents, which helps avoid the problem. I do, however, remember the cluster**** of trying to wrap an oddly shaped present and the results were horrid. Sure. The thing that bothers me is seeing a native English-speaker just not CARE about his/her own language enough to get it right. Mistakes happen, but ffs some people really aren't even trying. That said, I don't see the point in whining about it. IMO it's OK to point out an obvious typo in the topic or a flaw that completely changes the meaning of the sentence, but posting total OT just to pick on the typing just looks stupid. It's better to just ignore the posts that "don't meet your standards" (lol).
I am not a moderator but I am older than ALL of you. Go to your rooms and come back without flame wars. The john Three time MOTM nominee and one time MOTM winner. Just sayin.
I've got to be honest, Uni's posts as a whole seem to be helpful and enjoyable, but when the first comment you make on a thread is correcting somones spelling or grammar on a it can rub people up the wrong way. And has/does irritate me. As long as they're not using text or chav typing, why can't you let it slide? Hell if i corrected everything that annoyed me, i'd be here all day. Other than that you seem like a nice chap. Also on topic, i can't wrap for ****. Neither can i rap, but i don't think that's as relevant.
But then the language evolves and what is classed as 'correct' English now will be 'incorrect' in the future. I don't mind it so much on a forum, a forum isn't like a letter. So long as the point is made and understood then it matters little to me. Consider it this way, to a formal party I would wear a suit, to an informal gathering I wouldn't. I would rather read grammatically incorrect genius than well written nonsense.
A mate of mine uses tin-foil! I'm lucky as the other half loves wrapping presents so I only have to wrap the ones for her.
Normally my wrapping is fine, however I've just wrapped a Scooby Doo van for my niece which came in a box with a big opening cut out of it (including one of the corners) - needless to say it doesn't look quite right.
What I found annoying is cutting a load of bits of tape ready. I now have a tape dispensing doodad that makes it so much easier it's untrue. See: Skills, I have them.
